Hi there, Melissa here! I'm not fully official, but I'll be baking a storm this week for custom dog treat orders in time for Christmas if you're interested in paying a 'donation' to help me get the word out and pay for all the lab testing and licensing a business like this requires. For those that know me, I had an extremely busy fall and winter portrait season, which was great, but didn't leave much time for pet treats. But I'm back now, so if you're interested in rewarding your best friend with natural and nutritious treats in time for the holidays, this is the place to be. Here's a little about This Fab Lab to fill you in!
This Fab Lab creates nutritious treats full of natural ingredients that are good for your dog's health, and may fill the nutrient gap your dog may have from eating dog food alone. All our products are free of corn, wheat and soy, as some dogs have allergies to these products, just as some people do. In addition to healthy fruits, veggies, greens and lean proteins, you'll find coconut flour, buckwheat flour (not a wheat!) and oat flour in our treats. While these ingredients are more expensive to use in treats than standard white or wheat flour or other fillers like cornmeal, I firmly believe that the long-term benefits to your dog's health are well worth it.
Since these treats are natural, they won't keep as long as that box of Milk Bones you bought six months ago. They also don't have any crazy ingredients or preservatives in them, which can give you peace of mind that you're feeding your pooch something good! These treats are fresh baked and will keep safely in an airtight container for a week, the refrigerator for two to three weeks, and a few months in the freezer. After a baking frenzy, I leave a few out in a sealed jar on the counter for a week or so and put the rest in the freezer. I slowly move in smaller batches to the fridge when I'm ready for them.
I am looking into adding a preservative in the future called tocopherols, which is a natural antioxidant and Vitamin E source. This will help safely extend the shelf life of the treats.
I recently gave my sister a sampler of treats to give to her boss for a Christmas present, as his family just got a new dog not too long ago. I asked her how they went over, and she said they were a hit. The wife had some of the dog treats out as she was doing some holiday baking over the weekend, and her son came in and actually ate one of the treats, not knowing it wasn't for him. He said it was pretty good and even fed some to his friends!
Though these treats are meant for dogs, I've tried every kind I've made, with the exception of the Tail Waggers- I just can't bring myself to try a fishy dog treat!
There is nothing in these that I would hesitate to put into my body. So think about that while you're looking at the ingredient list of some store bought treats and see if you feel the same way!
