Fifteen a dozen for sand worms, twenty five for lug.

Lug worms are hand caught on the beach, which is why they move fast and why we don't always have them.

Spot and croaker are the ones to start on.

Sabiki rig, small hook, piece of worm, cast it off the canal. Bay and canal is where they hold. Flounder move around more, canal to bay to ocean.

Braid gets expensive fast.

Mono backing fills the spool so you're not laying $60 of braid down where it does nothing. It also gives the braid something to grip so it stops spinning on the spool.

Twenty pounds of drag is more than anything here will ask of you.

Which means when you lose a fish, it wasn't the reel. It was the knot, the hookset, or the net.

Loose braid is what causes most of the headaches people blame on braid.

It has to go on under real tension or it buries into itself on the first hard cast and you’re picking at a nest on the pier. Keep steady pressure the whole way and it lays flat and behaves for a couple of seasons.

Sealed matters more here than most places.

Salt and sand are what actually kill a reel, and both get past unsealed housings on a bay boat.

The scoop is where most eels get lost.

They swim, the striper takes it, and you bring it up slow like a chicken neck. Net at the surface, not a lift. Same mistake people make crabbing.

Water circulation in a minnow bucket is what keeps them going. No bucket, we'll bag them and they'll hold on ice about two hours.
