Winthrop's Whimsies

You, as our friends and loyal customers, deserve an update, so here it is. For the foreseeable future, Winthrop's Whimsies (and Sona Creations) are at a full stop.

Long story short, we've been facing some pretty huge challenges, and even we have breaking points. Depending on how close you are to us, you know that the last 14 months have been a series of rough events for both of us. Between the loss of far too many loved ones (human and fur), major illnesses (human and fur), the plumbing disaster requiring the complete rebuild of the Candy Kitchen, legal issues both with Whimsies and personal, etc. And while we are both good at dusting ourselves off and eating the horse, it's much more difficult with everything piling on all at once like this.

On top of everything else, a new issue with the IRS has reared its ugly head (we've been told by several attorneys that it's absolutely no fault of our own, we're simply being targeted through the fact that Charles dared change their name).

To put it simply, we've lost our Joy.

So we've made a decision. We're spending *at least* the rest of this year, trying to find our Joy again. Whether it's digging out from the piles of the past we are buried in, or exploring new creative outlets, we are on a quest. We can't from an empty well, so we have to work to fill it again. We'll try and keep you in the loop, because we love sharing with you, but know it's okay if we go silent for a while.

Test run of "Song of the Drowned" is finally ready!

The scent is best described as "Melancholy Beach."

I need 5 (just five) people willing to test it for me. Any takers? They'll be shipping out on August 2!

UPDATE: That was fast! We've got our 5, thanks to everyone who volunteered! Anyone we didn't select, don't worry, we have more soaps coming very soon, and you'll be entered into those automatically!

We've retooled, rebuilt, and reimagined ourselves from the ground up.

Welcome to the new 'Sona Creations! Specializing in apparel, body care, and accessories designed for individuals that feel overlooked by mainstream products. Our offerings speak to the unique thoughts and experiences of those who embrace their individuality.

The website is still under construction (these things take way too much time), but go check it out anyway, and while you're there, vote in the poll for the late-July drop!

We're about to do another tee shirt drop before we unveil the new shop site!

But, we need to know which one we should drop!

Pick one of the following, if you please, and the one chosen the most will be our drop for July!

Earlier this year we talked to you about it, and from our recent posts you've been seeing signs of it, but let's make it perfectly clear. We are out of the candy business, for now. It's not because we don't love making candy for you, it simply is not feasible to do it for now. Between greatly increasing ingredient costs, and slower sales, we just couldn't continue. And that pained us greatly. The last several months have been hard and depressing.

The saving grace has been learning new skills and the opportunities to be creative in new ways. Charles has been busy in the Candy Kitchen (it will always be called the Candy Kitchen, since that’s what it wants to be called, no matter what we make in it) testing amazing scents for a line of soaps and personal fragrances, while LaDonna has been using her graphic design degree for creating various t-shirts, buttons, and stickers.

What does that mean for Winthrop's Whimsies?

We will definitely be back. Most likely early fall this year with a new product line. Providing items geared towards customers with unique tastes, leaning towards the whimsical. But, we’ll have something for everyone, even if they don’t realize it until they see it!

In case it isn’t clear, our new products will still , but you probably shouldn't eat them.

Will we still be Winthrop's Whimsies?

We are changing the name of the business to reflect the new product line(s), but Whimsies will always be at the heart of the business! We’ve learned a lot over the past five years, and we’re going to take that hard earned knowledge, and make things even better!
