Crazy weather - hot one day, cold the next. Your heart says "Spring" but your body says, "wait a minute, is it still winter?"

What to do? Wear a jacket! Not just any jacket - make it one that makes your heart sing.

It started with a t-shirt, pulled from the rack at a local donation store. Then another striped shirt found its way into the shopping cart. A thrifted denim jacket, a little bleach, and soon things were coming together like they were meant to be.

The t -shirt - likely a souvenir from a trip was worn a couple of times and tossed. Now it's part of a bigger picture, an art piece you can wear.

Saturday morning scrolling...what catches your eye?

If something unique is on your mind, think thrifted fashion. Even better, think Upcycled Thrifted Fashion. No matter what the starting materials are, no two garments end up alike.

Ditch the all-black uniform and add some color and fun to your life, like this cropped denim jacket with some whimsical birds on the back.

P.S. If your "too much" meter is going off, start with just one piece. Wear it out in public and see what the response is, chances are you'll receive a lot of compliments. It puts a smile on your face and theirs. You may inspire someone else to brighten up their wardrobe, too.

This guy is one of my favorite upcycles! Who can resist such a stately stag? He's on a lightweight cotton flannel shirt that has been dipped in bleach for that two-tone effect.

It's one way to add fun to your wardrobe, and believe me, no one else will have one that looks just like it.

The average US consumer throws away 81.5lbs of clothes every year. In America alone, an estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste – equivalent to 85% of all textiles – end up in landfills on a yearly basis. Thats around 2,150 pieces per second countrywide.

Give your style a second thought – why wear throwaway fast fashion when you can wear a unique, thrifted item made from materials kept out of the landfill?

I make everything from thrifted items

Why is that a thing?

According to Earth.org, 1.92 million tons of textile waste are produced every year. Of the 100 billion garments produced each year, 92 million tons end up in landfills. The equivalent of a garbage truck full of clothes ends up in landfills every second. If the trend continues, the amount of fast-fashion waste is expected to soar to 134 million tons a year by the end of the decade.

$500 billion is lost each year because of under-wearing and failure to recycle clothes

The worst aspect of throw-away culture is that the vast majority of clothes tossed each year are not recycled. Globally, just 12% of the material used for clothing ends up being recycled. Much of the problem comes down to the materials our clothes are made from and the inadequate technologies to recycle them. The fabrics are made from problematic blends of natural yarns, man-made filaments, plastics, and metals, according to Earth.org.

I was guilty of this too, then I started shopping at thrift stores, finding better fabrics and returning to my sewing machine to make something new. Weird fabric, polyester and acryllic is difficult to work with, but instead I send it to Trashie - a textile recycling company.

Consider what you buy - there are a lot of quick, inexpensive options that seem irresistible, until you add the cost of disposal.

Wear vintage, thrifted, and upcycled for the win!

There's something so enticing about art supplies - well loved ones, especially.

These are from the Ecuadorian Artist Guayasamin, 1919-1999. I was fortunate to tour his home in Quito earlier this year. This is one of my favorite pics of his home.

Have you noticed?

Everything is beige, gray, or black. Try to find your black car in a parking lot - it gets challenging!

Don't get me started on clothes - it seems black leggings are the only option.

I say, start your own color revolution - stand out, be unique, and give the world a little color.

Plus, it's fun and cheers you up. And, it usually cheers up everyone around you, and isn't that better than blah?

It's not about perfection. Just being aware of the choices you make can make a difference.

🌱 Embrace sustainable habits: Make sustainable choices in your everyday life. Reduce single-use plastics, choose eco-friendly products, prioritize a plant-based diet and reduce meat consumption, and opt for sustainable fashion and transportation. Small changes can have a big impact.

👣 Reduce your carbon footprint: Make conscious choices to reduce your carbon footprint. Opt for renewable energy sources, conserve energy at home, use public transportation or carpool, and embrace sustainable practices like recycling and composting.

Thanks to Earth.org for the tips.
