🚨 UTAH OFF-ROAD UPDATE – H.B. 444 (2026) 🚨

There’s a change in the books that every dune rider needs to know about—especially if you’re hitting Little Sahara Recreation Area/Sand Mountain Utah or any designated dune area.

Under H.B. 444, Section 41-22-10.7 (lines 72–79) updates the rules on safety flags:

👉 Here’s what changed:

❌ Color requirement REMOVED
Previously, flags had to be red or orange… or require a red or orange topper, that is no longer in the law.

👉 That means flag color is no longer restricted.

📏 Minimum flag size still required:
• Must be at least 6” x 12”

⬆️ Height requirement still applies:
• Mounted on your machine → must be at least 8 feet off the ground
• On a dirt bike (helmet-mounted) → must be at least 18 inches above your head

⚠️ Here’s the part that’s wild:
This is a drastic change from just last fall, when riders were being told that starting Spring 2026 you’d be cited if your flag wasn’t red or orange.

Now… that requirement is gone.

📜 Official Update:
The bill has been signed by Governor Spencer Cox and goes into effect May 6, 2026.

💬 Why this matters:
While the law no longer restricts color, visibility still matters, especially on packed dune weekends where things can go bad

Bottom line:
Make sure your flag meets size and height requirements, and use some common sense when it comes to being seen out there.
