Castaway Trading Co. is dedicated to creating the most unique accessories for the urban adventurer! So be nice to them, and don't try to make them see reality.

A long time ago, on an ocean far, far away, two unlucky sailors were shipwrecked on a strange and mysterious island. The two companions stumbled around upon the beach for days, going mad with heat and thirst. They fashioned crude hats out of sea grass to keep the sun off their faces, and strange garments from bits of anything they could find. Eventually they discovered a cache of rum (which is nat

urally all any sailor needs to survive), and began to create more odd and unique items, just to pass the time. When they were finally rescued, they had set up a lean-to shop on the beach, and were peddling their wares to the crabs and parrots. Since then, Castaway Island has become a haven of trade and bartering for the unusual, the quirky, and the downright bizarre! Though the Castaways now live on the outskirts of a booming tropical resort, they still believe they are stranded, and that their numerous patrons are simply figments of their sun-baked imaginations. Fantasy is much more fun anyway!

Introducing our new fishing float hairsticks! Miniature hand wrapped fishing floats accompanied by various beads and charms, leather and h**p topped, on a wooden base. As many of you know, we love to use found or upcycled items in our pieces, these are no exception, so no two are alike! Catch them at the shop for now, and they may be up on Etsy down the road as well or by request. 🎣

Next up - Drink swizzle sticks in this style, as well as some poison dart ones. We've done these in the past and are eager to start making them again in a new style. So stay tuned! ☠️..

Made some new colors of our fishing float earrings! These new bright blue ones have a heat treated 'crackle' finish that make them sparkle in the sun. We've also finally added a larger version of the port and starboard. Available in dark or natural wrapping, with antique brass or copper hooks. Additional combinations available by request. New item in the shop! Our sword-and-shield hair-slides bring a little adventure to any ensemble! Featuring a heavy-duty leather shield, measuring roughly 3.75"×4.5", and a real metal sword-shaped hair pick! Perfect for the discerning fairytale knight! (Or knightly damsel!)

"...And I'll buy you a hat - a *really big* one!"
Avast there, me hearties! Feast yer eyes on this here fyne and mighty chapeau, what we done made from scratch, our very own selves, for which to adorn yer scurvy noggin!
We're so excited about how this HUGE and heavily distressed pirate hat came out! Hand-blocked out of 100% wool felt, it features a distressed leather hat band with decorative metal buckle, a hand-sewn leather sweatband, and a nice big spray of feathers for a bit of swashbuckling flair! Meant to be worn at a jaunty, asymmetrical angle, for that rakish, roguish look! (Don't mind the bullet hole).

Just finished up another set of “super-deluxe” Jack Sparrow belts for a gent going to the in a couple weeks! Very pleased with how these came out! These feature meticulous distressing, and highly screen-accurate detailing, down to the mysterious blotch on the tip of the light brown “Anamaria” belt. We like to think of these as “better than screen-accurate,” since we include several invisible details to make them even more durable than the screen-used hero props (like a layer of durable edge-coating on the dark brown “Sunflower” belt, and a reinforced patch for the “Anamaria” belt!

Crafted from high-quality leather and entirely hand stitched, it features a reinforced pull-string and leather toggle closure, two four-inch belt loops, and a slim wet-formed gusset, giving it plenty of room for your basic necessities while maintaining a low profile on your belt!

Avast me hearties, and feast yer eyes on this here fyne new chapeau! A hat fit for the most fearsome captains of the seven seas!
This is a pretty special item for us, because it is the very first hat we have ever blocked, sized, stretched, and shaped totally from scratch! 100% wool body with a distressed goat leather hat band, sweatband, and trim - all hand stitched! It features an oversized coconut shell button and feather cockade...

From start to finish - the story of a store, a floor, and a compass star! (Doggo approved - see last two pics!)
The first thing we knew we wanted to do when we moved into our new retail space was to spend some time totally refinishing the bare concrete floors - so with the help of Ian, our good friend and handyman, we deep-cleaned, stained, and finished them, then designed, masked out, and painted a large compass rose as our centerpiece! (If the directions look odd, that’s because they are oriented towards the actual cardinal directions, so when looking at it from the entrance of the shop, east is “up.”)
It was a lot of work, but we think it paid off big! Can’t wait for folks to see it in person!
