These 2 prints are by new friend of the shop , an animator and screen printer based in Spain. We absolutely love the imagery of her cat knight fighting through the apocalyptic AI wasteland. 💪⚔️😸
So what is “slop”?! 🦠 Slop is digital content produced by generative AI, which means it’s devoid of meaning, accuracy and any human effort. It’s not art. It’s the work of countless other artists scraped from the internet and blended together into soulless mush.
Slop is cheap. So businesses and billionaires are forcibly integrating it into our daily lives to pad their profits, rather than pay a real artist a livable wage.
In a better world or alternate dimension, there’s a responsible path forward where AI, an incredibly powerful tool, is utilized to help tackle and solve humanity’s greatest problems: stopping climate change, curing cancer, fixing the American medical and tax systems. But instead, in our profit driven society, AI is taking the jobs of artists.
Creativity (visual art, music, film, etc) is what makes humanity special and unique. It’s one of the few things we do really well! To sacrifice it so corporations can cut a few corners is not acceptable.
In summary: 1) f@ck generative AI. 2) hire and pay real artists. 3) Can’t afford to pay an artist? Make your own art! “Bad art” by a real human is better than slop every single time — and it’s not even close.
