We built this small swag lamp with vintage tapa barkcloth and used some bamboo that previously hung at The Kon-Tiki that closed down not too long ago.

This one was snatched up real quick at the recent Sacramento Ohana Tiki Marketplace.

We should probably make a few more of these for Tiki Oasis. What do you think?

THIS WEEKEND: THE GREAT CALI SHOWDOWN

First Wave Tiki is splitting the team and taking the rivalry statewide.

🏝️ William being from The Bay is heading north, flying the First Wave flag at & in NorCal.

🌺 Kelly being from OC is holding down the south, bringing the goods to a in SoCal and repping the LBC.

Both armed with vintage treasures, questionable levels of competitive spirit, and the firm belief that their half of California has the better tiki scene.

Who wins? Probably the people who get first crack at the merchandise.

If you’re in Northern California, go see William.
If you’re in Southern California, go see Kelly.
If you’re in both places somehow, please report back with your findings.

Sometimes you just have to try something to see if it works.

This capiz bowl was a tiny (pun intended) experiment by . Hand painting miniature tropical fruit all over a vintage capiz piece seemed like a good idea, but there was definitely a point where it could have gone sideways. 🍍🍌🥭

She loves the journey as much as the result, figuring out if she can actually pull off what’s in her head. Every now and then the result ends up even better than expected. Pretty pleased with how this one turned out. You can snag this one-of-a-kind piece at this Saturday from noon to sunset, held in the parking lot of the infamous !

Starting off with the Marketplace on Saturday June 6th from 8am to 1pm.

This is an authorized reproduction of Edgar Leeteg’s “Hukilau Girl” (looks more like she’s fishing to us). It was produced by Edgar Leeteg Jr., who reproduced some of his father’s works for a limited time.

Edgar Leeteg the Elder is known as the godfather of black velvet painting. He painted in Tahiti in the 30’s through the early 50’s, when he passed away in 1953.

If you’ll believe the mythology, he started painting on velvet, because a local tradesperson had an excess of it, and painting canvas was in short supply.

This piece has been matted in a faux bamboo Frame.

The velvet itself is 13” wide by 17” tall. The frame is 17.5”x21.5”

We are super excited to be vending for the first time at the Marketplace on June 6th at the Carmichael Elks Lodge.

We will be bringing up a bunch of handcrafted tiki lamps as well as clocks, panels and maybe some cool vintage pieces.

Also if you can’t see us there we will be in San Jose Dr Funks Tiki Bazaar.

It’ll be a busy weekend but can’t wait to see you all.

This new lamp is a collaboration between William and Kelly.

He designed and built the structure of the lamp, and she added the cool tapa print style painting on the sides.

This lamp is fun. It gives off most of its light downward, but has some nice light leaks between the bamboo slats.

You’ll see this one at .funksj on June 7th
