This is an authorized reproduction of Edgar Leeteg’s ā€œHukilau Girlā€ (looks more like she’s fishing to us). It was produced by Edgar Leeteg Jr., who reproduced some of his father’s works for a limited time.

Edgar Leeteg the Elder is known as the godfather of black velvet painting. He painted in Tahiti in the 30’s through the early 50’s, when he passed away in 1953.

If you’ll believe the mythology, he started painting on velvet, because a local tradesperson had an excess of it, and painting canvas was in short supply.

This piece has been matted in a faux bamboo Frame.

The velvet itself is 13ā€ wide by 17ā€ tall. The frame is 17.5ā€x21.5ā€

This new lamp is a collaboration between William and Kelly.

He designed and built the structure of the lamp, and she added the cool tapa print style painting on the sides.

This lamp is fun. It gives off most of its light downward, but has some nice light leaks between the bamboo slats.

You’ll see this one at .funksj on June 7th

She painted this version of the Mona Lisa with an homage to some of our friends. If you look hard at this piece you might recognize some works by other tiki artists.

She named it The Moana Lisa. Go check it out.

Here is another lamp we finished up last week.

We really like this ā€œpinchedā€ style and it does look pretty good lit up.

Like most of our lamps it has vintage rattan as the structure and hand-carved and burnt wood, as well as layers of other materials to add texture.

This lamp will also be heading north to San Jose for the .funksj Bazaar on June 7th. Come say hi and take a look at all we bring as well as the other vendors.

Not only is she a fantastic painter, but she also makes really cool engravings.

Sometime on the frames of her paintings, sometimes as an accent on a lamp, and sometimes the carvings are the main focal piece like on this vintage Hawaiian Monkeypod leaf bowl.

Come to one of our next shows to check out all of ā€˜s work.

This is a rare square shaped rattan shelf from the 1940’s or early 50’s.

It would be perfect for displaying some of your rare Tiki Mugs.

The bottom shelf has about 11ā€ clearance for tall mugs, and the upper shelf has about 6ā€ clearance.

We can’t wait to see this shelf on your wall.

Tiki Caliente 17 is calling… and we’re answering from the grass patch behind the pool 🌓

We’ll be set up at Caliente Tropics in Palm Springs from 10am–6pm, bringing a stack of First Wave Tiki treasures along for the ride. Think vintage finds with stories baked in, pieces we’ve brought back to life, and a few things you didn’t know you needed until they’re in your hands.

If you’re wandering the grounds, follow the scent of sunscreen and rum, loop past the pool, and find us in the grass spot. That’s where the good stuff lives.

Come dig. Come say hi. Come take something strange and wonderful home with you.
