One of the greatest challenges many interior designers face is helping clients understand the professional process behind them.

Trust the Design Process was written to bridge that gap by explaining the phases, decisions, and collaboration that lead to exceptional results.

If you're an interior designer looking for a resource that supports both your practice and your client relationships order your copy through the link.

Beautiful interiors don't begin with perfect projects. They begin with people who understand how to work well together.
That’s the conversation behind my new book, Trust the Design Process: How Interiors Professionals and Their Clients Work Best Together.
Over the years, through my own work in interiors and conversations with interiors professionals and clients, I kept hearing variations of the same challenges: expectations that were never clearly defined, decisions reopened after approval, confusion about professional roles, and misunderstandings about how the pieces of an interiors project fit together.
These aren't one-offs. And many are avoidable.
The book walks readers through the 12 sequential stages of an interiors project—from Discovery through Final Layering—explaining not only what happens at each stage, but why it happens, what needs to be accomplished before moving forward, and how decisions made along the way affect everything that follows.
It also clarifies the roles of the many professionals who may contribute to a project, from interior designers and decorators to architects, contractors, fabricators, installers, workrooms, lighting professionals, wallpaper and fabric designers, and others.
Interior designer Shannon Allen calls the book “a raw, honest guide” for helping homeowners and design professionals work together more cohesively. Interior designer Kadija Taylor calls it “an invaluable resource for interior professionals,” sharing that it challenged her to rethink aspects of her own client process.
Because trusting the design process isn't about surrendering your voice. It’s about understanding the process, communicating openly, respecting expertise, and knowing how everyone involved can contribute to a successful outcome.

Last November, I sent out a press release announcing my collaboration with Concept 32.
I thought I was simply sharing exciting news.
What I didn't expect was that someone reading it would see a much bigger story.
Months later, Rebecca Furuta of Longmont Magazine reached out for an interview, and the resulting article wasn't really about wallpaper or cabinetry at all. It was about originality, craftsmanship, thoughtful collaboration, and creating homes that genuinely reflect the people who live in them.
Reading the article reminded me why I started doing this work in the first place.
Original design isn't simply about creating beautiful things. It's about helping people create homes that could belong to no one else.
Every wallpaper and fabric pattern begins as my original artwork. From there, I love helping people bring together color, pattern, texture, materials, and finishes to create spaces that feel personal, welcoming, and uniquely theirs.
Thank you to Rebecca Furuta (.furuta) and () for seeing the larger story, and to Concept 32 () for sharing the belief that thoughtful design and craftsmanship can create homes that are every bit as meaningful as they are beautiful.
The work I've been building has never been about decorating rooms. It's about helping create homes that feel unmistakably their own.

People often assume a successful interiors project comes down to good taste.

Taste matters.

But understanding the process matters just as much.

Great rooms don't happen because every decision is made at once. They come together through a sequence—discovery, planning, sampling, refinement, procurement, installation, and countless conversations along the way.

When clients understand why that sequence exists, projects become clearer, collaboration improves, costly changes are reduced, and everyone is working toward the same goal.

That's why I wrote Trust the Design Process: How Interiors Professionals and Their Clients Work Best Together.

By the middle of summer, homes often begin telling us something we couldn't hear in spring.

Weeks of changing daylight, open windows, family gatherings, quiet evenings, and everyday living give us a clearer understanding of how a room actually feels—not just how it looked when everything was first put together.

Perhaps a wall still feels unresolved.

Perhaps everything coordinates, yet the room never quite settles.

Perhaps the answer isn't another purchase at all.

One of my favorite parts of this season is encouraging clients to pause before making decisions. Spend time in the rooms you use every day. Notice where your eye naturally rests, where it hesitates, and how the relationships between architecture, furnishings, color, texture, and pattern are working together.

The most successful interiors don't begin with buying.

They begin with careful observation.

That's where thoughtful design decisions are made.

There is nothing quite like seeing a pattern become part of a real room.
A finished space with real light, real surfaces, and real use.
From sample to space.
A lovely Georgia client recently shared photos from their wallpaper installation, along with the kindest note about the ordering process.
“Gabrielle made what could’ve been a confusing and complicated wallpaper ordering process as easy as possible. She provided valuable step-by-step direction and was extremely responsive every step of the way… we are thrilled with our decisions and the end result.”
This is exactly why I believe every wallpaper order should begin with samples. Color, scale, undertone, material, and light all need to be considered in the actual room — and the process should feel clear, not overwhelming.

I’ve spent a lot of time sharing the world behind my work — the artwork, the patterns, the colors, the rooms, the materials, and the point of view.
Now I’ll also be sharing more about how to bring these designs into real spaces.
My wallpaper and fabric collections are available as samples, wallpaper rolls, performance fabrics for upholstery, window treatments, pillows, bedding, and more.
Every order begins with samples, because color, scale, material, and light need to be seen in the room.
