The difference between decorating and design is intention.
One of my favorite moments in this Central West End, St. Louis home project wasn’t arranging the artwork or even floor planning the furniture…
It was creating one unforgettable statement chair.
This magnificent first-floor great room needed to do much more than simply “look beautiful.”
It had to comfortably transition between:
✨ Family movie nights
♠️ Game nights around the card table
🥂 Cocktail parties
💙 Everyday conversation
Rather than filling the room with matching seating, I wanted one piece that immediately captured your attention while connecting every area of the space. The furnishings also had to hold their own alongside a beautifully curated collection of antiques and art the homeowners were bringing into the space.
Enter this custom chair.
The carved wood frame already possessed timeless character, but the true transformation came with a bold decision…
A custom blue-and-white Ming Tiger textile and a fine finishing rope detail trim that coordinated perfectly!! 🩵

Why this fabric?
Most people notice the tigers first.
Designers notice something else.
The movement.
The flowing pattern keeps your eye traveling around the room while the blue-and-white palette creates contrast against the warm leather sofa, rich hardwood flooring, and antique Persian rugs.
Instead of competing with the large-scale artwork, the chair complements it by introducing another layer of artistic expression.
Every room deserves one element that starts a conversation.
This became ours.
