For the Oceti Sakowin people, buffalo teach the value of generosity. This corset honors that relationship of giving everything so the people can live. Transforming authentic buffalo horn hairpipes into contemporary couture that preserves identity, carries memory, and shares a story of the beauty of plains people.

The Threads That Connect Us: A Fashion Show

Wearing a cream K. Lookinghorse suit featuring a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Dentalium shell cape, a garment historically worn by her grandmothers of the Oceti Sakowin as a symbol of wealth, status, and cultural significance.

This presentation marked a historic moment among an international roster of designers. It was an honor to showcase this work as part of the first-ever exhibition celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial at the Library of Congress on June 10, 2026, in Washington, D.C.

Sharing this breathtaking garment and the story it carries was an unforgettable experience. 🩷
