The Making of Lady Liberty. 🇺🇸

I’m honored to finally share that I designed the Lady Liberty look for the FIFA World Cup 26™ Fourth of July Opening Ceremony, celebrating America’s 250th Birthday.

Twenty-six years ago, I came to America from Afghanistan. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d one day have the opportunity to design for the world’s biggest stage.

Every iconic look begins with an idea.

This series takes you behind the scenes—from the first sketch to the final stitch—and reveals the journey of bringing Lady Liberty to life.

Fashion has always been my way of telling stories. This project became an opportunity to celebrate resilience, craftsmanship, and the extraordinary team who transformed a sketch into a moment witnessed by millions.

To every artist, maker, collaborator, and production team member—thank you. This story belongs to all of us.

Before the tournament reaches its final chapter, here’s a look at Lady Liberty—created for the World Cup 26 Fourth of July Opening Ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

This project represents months of creativity, collaboration, and craftsmanship, and tomorrow I’ll finally share the story behind it.

Twenty-six years ago today, I arrived in America.

For a long time, I thought this day was only about being adopted.

Looking back, I realize it was also the beginning of discovering who I was.

When I was little, clothing was never just clothing. My father made many of our clothes by hand. My first favorite outfit was a Winnie-the-Pooh set from America. I mixed an Afghani traditions with American gifts without realizing that one day, those different worlds would shape the way I see beauty and tell stories.

I spent years trying to fit into one world.

Today, I’ve learned that I don’t have to choose between them.

Every place I’ve called home, every person who has loved me, and every chapter of my journey lives in the work I create.

Today marks 26 years in America.

I’m incredibly grateful for where this journey has taken me, and even more excited for where it’s leading next.

Twenty-six years ago, I came to America from Afghanistan. I never imagined that one day I would be part of a celebration honoring America’s 250th birthday at the FIFA World Cup 26™. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

Grateful to have been part of this incredible experience.

A special thank you to . Your vision, creativity, and leadership brought this entire celebration to life. It was a privilege to be part of your team and to witness your vision come to life on such an incredible stage.

To Bruno Perlatto and Caterina Botticelli —thank you for every conversation, every long day, every challenge we tackled, and every laugh along the way. I’m so grateful I got to share this journey with you both.

This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate love in all its forms! ❤️ Our film embodies love—love for education, love for empowerment, and love for every girl who deserves the right to learn. Project Runway was more than just a competition for me—it was the first platform that truly gave me a voice. As the first Afghan woman on the show, I wasn’t just creating fashion; I was telling a story—my story. For the first time on national TV, I spoke about my two sisters, about the women of Afghanistan, and about the resilience that runs through us.

I don’t say this often, but I am beyond proud of myself. Those moments on the runway was bigger than me—it was a chance to stand for something greater. And today, that journey has come full circle. With the incredible support of President , both of my sisters are now attending SCAD, safe and free from the Taliban’s harm.

Project Runway Season 19 is now streaming on . Watching it back, I see more than designs; I see the courage, the fight, and the power of using my voice. And for that, I am forever grateful. ❤️

We are beyond thrilled to share the incredible news that “One Step Away” has won “Best War Film” at the 2024 Roma Short Film Festival! This poignant short documentary, which has just premiered in Europe, is now making waves on the international stage. 📽️🎞️🇮🇹🎉✨

At its heart, “One Step Away” a short documentary directed by , tells the deeply personal story of our two-year mission to reunite with my younger sisters, whom I had not seen in over 24 years. The film begins with my own journey, moving from Afghanistan to Pakistan as a refugee, ultimately leading to my adoption and life in the United States, where I pursued my education at .

Two years ago, with the invaluable support of President and her dedicated team, we set forth on this challenging mission to rescue my sisters from the Taliban. This journey has opened doors for them and given them the opportunity to pursue their dreams of studying Architecture at SCAD.

Winning an award at the Roma Short Film Festival is particularly meaningful to us, as it celebrates the talents of emerging filmmakers, actors, cinematographers, editors, and producers. Founded just three years ago in Rome, Italy, this festival has quickly become a platform for underground films that offer fresh perspectives and compelling narratives. We are proud to mark this significant milestone for , celebrating our first year of participation and our exciting win.

As we continue to share our story, we remain committed to making a meaningful impact in the world! Here’s to a brighter future! 🐝❤️
