ALTAR New Orleans arose from the magic and costume culture of New Orleans. Our clothing acts as a feminist alchemy.

It beckons to the witch and and the mystic in each of us. Worship what you wear and transformation will ensue. Ryn Wilson founded Altar in 2010 when she moved to the magnificent city of New Orleans. She worked as a costumer and seamstress in the Mardi Gras industry as well as for films, performances, and fashion. In 2019, Altar had a complete transformation into what you see today. Ryn has a backg

round in visual arts, and received an MFA in photography and video art. She brings this love into the Altar brand, styling photo shoots and videos as if they were works of art. She also has a strong connection to the New Orleans arts scene and collaborates with local artists to create the beautiful textile designs you see in her line.

I am feeling so aligned with this month’s Black Moon, the third New Moon this summer. Jazz Fest was four months ago, and I let myself take a little break from Altar to reset my intentions. Two of those months were spent getting inspired on artist residencies in Japan. Now I’m feeling refreshed and excited, dreaming up new designs and a Men’s line. I can’t wait to share my process and new creations with you. ✨🌑✨

ALTAR will be at Jazz Fest this weekend! Come by and say hi!
I’ll be in Heritage Square, Tent G in Contemporary Crafts—between the Jazz Tent and the Blues Tent—this Thursday through Sunday (April 24–27).

This photo features my collaboration with artist of .goddess.designs. We transformed her stunning figure drawings into this luscious print on silk, linen, and recycled spandex. Getting away to the desert last week was a much needed escape into the wilderness. Living off grid for a few days, exploring the arid landscape, and worshipping the sun on my face. 🌞 🌵 🏜️

Altar will have a booth at Jazz Fest this year! I’ve been busy in the studio working on Mardi Gras season. I’m excited to shift gears and dream up some fun new festival looks. We may have 10 inches of snow today in Nola, but festival season is upon us!
