Our Story:
When my daughter first returned to elementary school after learning remotely during the pandemic, I started writing rhyming verse poetry for her and sticking it into her lunch box. I thought of it as a way to add some joy, levity and distraction to her day during uncertain times and something fun that she and I could "collaborate" on together as she would often request a theme for me to write to (vegan dragons, going to the beach, a cactus, having a hamburger instead of a head, a panda made out of pancakes- you name it!). I'd take her direction and run with it and she'd have a blast reading them with her classmates at the lunch table. One day, I forgot to include some verse in the midst of the morning rush and she told her friends that I hadn't written a poem that day. She said that the friend replied, "Wait- your mom WRITES these? I thought she was copying them out of a book!" So... that got me thinking... How could I keep writing and rhyming to get more poems out to more kiddos?
Enter: My Printable Poet (www.myprintablepoet.com)
I just launched my first collection of rhyming lunch box poetry for kids! I've separated the collection (thus far) into themes: Wacky & Zany, Holidays & Milestones and Adventure & Nature. Each pdf theme includes poems for a month's worth of school days- whoo hoo! Parents can purchase, download instantly, print and voilΓ - lunchtime just became a little more creative! The goal is to encourage imagination, a love of reading, early literacy (hello, rhyming verse!) and maybe even take one thing off a caregiver's "to do" list in the morning (No time to jot down a lunch note? We hear you, we got you :-) ).
For a while now, I've been trying to think about pursuing a project that combines something I enjoy doing with something that can infuse a bit of positive energy in our day to day ('cause I know we can all use a little more of that :-). Thanks so much for checking out My Printable Poet and most importantly: spicing up that lunch box!
