When asked if she considers herself a feminist, Angel Brinks didn't hesitate. "By definition, a feminist is somebody who believes in equal rights. It doesn't mean you hate men, it just means that you believe women are entitled to the same rights as men, which I definitely believe."

Nyakim Gatwech is a South Sudanese model who built her career around something she once felt othered for: her exceptionally dark skin. Early in her career, editors lightened her complexion in photos, and for a while she went along with it. That changed after a shoot called "Different Melanin" put her natural skin front and center, and her following exploded.

When an Uber driver once offered her $10,000 to bleach her skin, her response went viral: "Why on Earth would I ever bleach this beautiful melanin God blessed me with?"
