We recently travelled to Taiwan for family + work, and finally had the chance to visit the studio of ceramic artist Lowe I Sheng, whose work we have admired for years. We’re excited to now share his work at BB Etc. Pictured here are his teapot and clover-shaped stemmed teacups, made of porcelain and intentionally petite in scale for Chinese and Japanese tea. This type of tea is traditionally brewed in small quantities and enjoyed through multiple infusions, inviting a slower and more considered way of drinking, holding just enough to appreciate the tea as its character changes from one infusion to the next.

A handful of our personal, well-worn waxed canvas bags by Kazumi Takigawa / 瀧川かずみ that we’ve carried, filled, and folded for 8+ years. Inspired by the humble paper bag, Kazumi’s designs are made from durable waxed cotton canvas that starts off stiff and crisp when new, but gradually softens and becomes beautifully marked with everyday use.

One of our favorite characteristics about these bags is that their transformation isn’t entirely permanent. If the waxed canvas becomes heavily creased and you want to return it to a smoother, more structured state, Kazumi recommends carefully applying warm air with a hair dryer to relax the creases and bring the surface back toward its original appearance. These bags are another continuation of an idea we explored years ago in our Building Block ‘With Age’ journal series focusing on objects that become more beautiful through patina + progress 🤎

Join us Wednesday evening for the opening reception of our Summer Pop-Up with Kamaro’an , a Taiwan-based studio that collaborates with Indigenous Pangcah craftspeople to carry forward traditional weaving practices through contemporary bags and objects. At the heart of Kamaro’an’s work is a weaving tradition historically used throughout Pangcah life, from fishing and farming tools to baskets, brewing vessels, and even the construction of homes. Their signature woven forms employ a continuous one-thread technique derived from rattan bindings once wrapped around stone pestles used in rice brewing. Worked from beginning to end with a single strand, the weave creates structures that are remarkably durable and understated.

For our Summer Pop-Up, we welcome Kamaro’an Kamaro’an , a Taiwan-based studio that collaborates with Indigenous Pangcah craftspeople to carry forward traditional weaving practices through contemporary bags and objects. Named after the Pangcah word for “a place to live,” the studio has worked since 2013 to sustain and evolve craft traditions rooted in the daily life and culture of Taiwan’s east coast.

Please join us for the opening reception of our Summer Pop-Up, where we will share a curated collection of Kamaro’an’s signature woven bags + accessories. Refreshments will be served.
