BESTIE, You don’t need a designer budget to look expensive! Just follow these 4 rules when shopping and you’ll nail it every time.
1. Fabric is King. A cheap fabric will ruin your outfit instantly. Stick to natural fibers as much as possible (linen, cotton, silk, wool, etc.) and make sure when you have the item on it looks high quality. Knits (sweaters, t-shirts) should NOT be see through and should have a good weight to them. Anything silk or light weight should flow and move with you seamlessly without creating awkward ripples at the seams.
2. Your shoes can make or break an outfit. If they’re scuffed and worn, they’ll drag your fit down. Make sure to clean and polish your shoes seasonally! (they’re also last a lot longer) And skip the running shoes & Uggs (guilty!). Opt for loafers, boots, flats, and heels. Leather sneakers are good for casual looks, check out my previous posts for my current recs!
3. Structured accessories can immediately level up an outfit! Skip the flimsy cloth belts that come with pants & dresses and instead use a leather belt. Structured handbags and simple jewelry will also make you look more expensive.
4. When in doubt, keep it simple. 3-4 colors in the outfit (including accessories), stick to all solids with a pop of 1 print, and keep visible layers to a max of 2. If it’s cold, wear layers that aren’t visible, 3+ visible layers can make your outfit look fussy and messy.
