The fifth World Nomad Games kicked off this week in Kazakhstan's capital of Astana. Dubbed the "Great Gathering on the Steppe", the Olympics of the nomadic world is a spectacular celebration of traditional sports, identity and culture from across inner Asia.

Part Highland Games, part Mongolian Naadam festival, and featuring sports like horseback wrestling and Central Asian strongman competitions, the World Nomad Games give a flavour of what the Olympics might have looked like if Genghis Khan had been in charge.

Australia batter David Warner says he is the only player who has taken "a lot of flak" since the sandpaper ball-tampering scandal.

Warner and then-captain Steve Smith were banned for a year after being found guilty of ball-tampering during a 2018 Test match against South Africa.

Opening batter Cameron Bancroft, who carried out the act, was also suspended for nine months.

Bath fly-half Finn Russell says he sought advice from team-mate Ben Spencer about "how to win" titles before Saturday's Premiership final against Northampton Saints.

The Scotland number 10 has helped Bath reach their first league final in nine years as they attempt to win a first title since 1996.

Britain's Molly Caudery won the pole vault title at the World Athletics Continental Tour event in the Czech Republic with a world-leading mark this year.

Caudery, 24, cleared 4.84m, the highest women’s outdoor vault in the world so far in 2024, at the Ostrava Golden Spike.

The world indoor champion had two unsuccessful attempts at setting a new national record of 4.92m.

American player Danielle Collins has enjoyed one of the finest seasons of her life. The 30-year-old has moved back into the WTA top 10, having won 35 of her 45 matches and lifted the biggest title of her career in Miami. A lot of people have been surprised by my decision to retire while I've been having some of the best success of my career.

Two Premier League footballers have been arrested in connection with an alleged r**e.

The pair – both aged 19 – were released on bail after being interviewed by police.

The players are at the same club, which declined to comment on the allegations.

“Officers have arrested two men following a report of a r**e,” a police spokesperson said.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a r**e. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of r**e.

“Both men have since been released on police bail.”

The allegations were first reported by The Sun newspaper, which said the alleged attack took place on Friday.

It is not known if the players have been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.

The Premier League introduced mandatory sexual consent training for players and staff in 2022 following high-profile incidents involving top-flight footballers.

In November a Panorama investigation found Premier League clubs had continued to play two footballers, and kept a boss in post, while knowing they were under police investigation for sexual or domestic violence.

Chelsea's players are talking about doing the unprecedented quadruple this season - but their focus is always on the next game, insists Ashley Lawrence.

The Blues have won the Women's Super League in each of the past four seasons and the FA Cup in the previous three - but could go even further this time.

They are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Ajax over two legs in their last-eight meeting, face Manchester United in the last four of the FA Cup, and the current WSL leaders could collect the first trophy of a potential four in the League Cup this weekend.

No English women's side has ever won four major trophies in a season, while the last team to win a Treble were Arsenal when they lifted the league, FA Cup and Uefa Women's Cup in 2007 - a year they also won the Community Shield.

It is Arsenal who will be aiming to spoil Chelsea's quadruple dreams in the Continental League Cup on Easter Sunday - just as they ruined a potential treble for the Blues by winning the same final 3-1 last season.

Chelsea defender Lawrence, 28, says the squad are taking nothing for granted in their quest for the quadruple.

"It's always there, we talk about it," she told BBC Sport. "But our focus is on day by day. We work towards the next game, but we are excited to be in this position.

"We are aware of the four trophies, Emma [Hayes] and the players who have been here a while know what it takes to win. It's always there, but not the main focus."

Chelsea are used to the strain of competing for multiple trophies at once.

They played in every match possible to be involved in last season, apart from the Champions League final as they were eliminated at the final-four stage. Hayes' side also reached the FA and League Cup finals and won the WSL.

It is new to Lawrence, who joined the club last summer from Paris St-Germain, but the Canadian said the team is ready to cope with a relentless run-in, even if it affects time on the training ground.

"We try to take the most important bits and pieces from a game and do better," she added. "If those things are specific and apply to the next game then the staff will focus on those things.

"But all season it has been a quick turnaround, playing for four different trophies, and we have just been accustomed to it."

Barcelona reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in four years with an entertaining victory over Napoli.

Fermin Lopez and Joao Cancelo put Barcelona on their way at Estadi de Montjuic, but the hosts were made to work hard by the Italian side who pulled one back through Amir Rrahmani.

A back-and-forth encounter was eventually settled by Poland striker Robert Lewandowski's close-range finish with seven minutes of normal time remaining

Eddie Gray collects the ball in the centre circle and immediately sets his sights on Chelsea’s goal. But David Webb has other ideas. Fuelled by fresh memories of his roasting at the hands of the Leeds winger a couple of weeks prior, the defender hits him, both feet off the ground, no prisoners. Bang.

It takes all of two minutes for the 1970 FA Cup final replay to live up to its billing as a game best avoided by the faint of heart.

It is a match that has gone down in football folklore as a meeting of pure malice between a defeated Leeds United side renowned for having the muscle to match their magnificence and a victorious Chelsea team with flashiness and ferocity in equal measure.

Football was a very different game half a century ago, when much greater leniency was shown to crunching, full-bloodied tackles and their aftermath. But even by the standards of the time it made for brutal viewing.

Such is its enduring reputation, it has been re-refereed twice since by leading officials according to modern interpretations of the rules. In 1997, David Elleray concluded he would have shown six red cards, while in 2020 Michael Oliver opted for 11.

On the night, referee Eric Jennings brandished just one yellow card.

As the two clubs gear up to face each other in the FA Cup for the first time since that game 54 years ago, BBC Sport looks back at one of the most notorious encounters in English football history.

Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic has suffered a serious knee injury while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kalajdzic, 26, has ruptured the cruciate and lateral ligaments in his right knee and is out "indefinitely".

The Austria international joined the Bundesliga side in the January transfer window and had registered one assist in five games.

He joined Wolves for £15m in 2022 but suffered a knee injury on debut and missed the rest of the season.

He returned this campaign, scoring three goals in 13 appearances.

When he left on loan in January, Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said Kalajdzic had been "incredibly unlucky" and the "best thing for Sasa and us long-term is for him to go and get lots of football".

Ibrahima Traore smiles as he parks his black Range Rover outside the apartment block where his footballing story began.

He is back in Pantin, just outside the north-east corner of the peripherique - the ring road that separates central Paris from its suburbs.

Amid the din of sirens and the aroma of fast food, Traore buzzes in and takes the lift to the fifth floor. The doors open and his brother is waiting to welcome him back to their childhood home.

Inside, there are photos of the pair's Guinean father and Lebanese mother, as well as shots of grandparents and younger generations of the family. Dominating the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, across a dual carriageway and tramline, is a vast sports complex, with two 4G football pitches.

"That's our Camp Nou, our Anfield," Traore says. "We used to jump over the fence at seven in the morning to practise our free-kicks. Before school and after school, it was football. Only football."

For many of the kids growing up here, constant practice can lead to the ultimate reward - a career in the professional game.

Traore, now 35, played more than 250 games for four different clubs in Germany's Bundesliga and captained Guinea at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Xabi Alonso has emerged as hot favourite to become the next Liverpool manager following Jurgen Klopp's shock decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

A former Anfield favourite - he scored in their Champions League final win in 2005 - Alonso has enjoyed spectacular success at Bayer Leverkusen, who sit two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga and are in the knockout stages of the Europa League after an unblemished group-stage campaign.

When he joined the club in October 2022 they were second from bottom after eight Bundesliga games. Just 26 games later they finished in sixth place and in Europe.

But Liverpool are not the only club casting an avaricious eye over the man who is currently one of the hottest managerial properties. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich (both of whom he also played for with great distinction) and even Manchester City where Pep Guardiola might not extend his stay past the end of next season, will also be looking closely at the situation.

And despite bookmakers offering miserly odds which make it look like it is a done deal, it is anything but - and the only certainty is that, ultimately, the decision will be Alonso's alone.
