The fifth World Nomad Games kicked off this week in Kazakhstan's capital of Astana. Dubbed the "Great Gathering on the Steppe", the Olympics of the nomadic world is a spectacular celebration of traditional sports, identity and culture from across inner Asia.

Part Highland Games, part Mongolian Naadam festival, and featuring sports like horseback wrestling and Central Asian strongman competitions, the World Nomad Games give a flavour of what the Olympics might have looked like if Genghis Khan had been in charge.

As a football team, you have achieved something special when an impromptu parade and celebration in the centre of your capital city is organised at 2am.

Those were the scenes in Georgia, after the national team beat Greece on penalties to qualify for Euro 2024 – their first major senior tournament.

“Within about an hour [of full-time] we were told 'get on the coach, we are going to do a victory parade through Tbilisi',” assistant manager David Webb tells BBC Sport.

The Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans secured the final two spots in the NBA play-offs after victories in their play-in tournament games.

The Heat beat the Chicago Bulls 112-91, while the Pelicans claimed a 105-98 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Despite the absence of key player Jimmy Butler, Miami dominated the first quarter and never gave up their lead.

The Pelicans were without their star Zion Williamson but Brandon Ingram's 24 points helped them hold off the Kings.

Miami take the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and will now face the Boston Celtics, who finished with the best record in the regular season, with New Orleans playing the Western Conference top seed, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Both series will begin on Sunday.

Butler, who has led Miami to two NBA finals, including last year's defeat by the Denver Nuggets, is facing several weeks out with a sprained knee ligament.

Williamson has strained his left hamstring and will be reassessed in two weeks' time.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are set to retire Caitlin Clark's number 22 jersey.

The announcement at Iowa's end-of-season celebration ceremony comes days after her record-breaking NCAA career came to an end.

She finishes as the all-time leading scorer in college basketball, totalling 3,951 points and averaging 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

Clark, 22, is set to join the WNBA and is projected to be the number one pick in the draft on Monday.

She addressed fans after the announcement was made, saying: "You've all inspired me as much as I inspired you, you allowed me to live out my dream every single day, and for that, I'm very thankful. It's been very special, and this place will always be home to me."

Her college career came to an end on Sunday as Iowa came up short against the undefeated South Carolina in the NCAA championship game.

Clark's time at Iowa ended without a national championship but she collected two major college basketball individual accolades - the Naismith National Player of the Year and Wooden Award - for the second consecutive season.

Her impact on women's college basketball will not be forgotten, with the final pulling in a viewership of 18.9 million, which was more than the men's final at 14.8 million.

The Indiana Fever have the number one pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and are expected to select Clark at number one.

Her influence can already be seen across the league, where the Fever will have 36 of their 40 games nationally broadcast compared to only one last season.

The WNBA Draft will take place on Monday, 15 April at 19:30 Eastern time (00:30 BST).

The Golden State Warriors claimed a 101-93 victory against the Orlando Magic despite the early ejection of forward Draymond Green.

Green received his fourth ejection of the season just three minutes and 36 seconds into the game after disputing a foul call on Stephen Curry.

It was his second technical foul having earlier argued against a personal call.

Green missed 16 games after he was suspended in December for striking Phoenix Suns player Jusuf Nurkic.

In November, the 34-year-old was given a five-game ban for putting Minnesota Timberwolves centre Rudy Gobert in a headlock.

He was also suspended during last year's play-offs after stamping on Sacramento Kings player Domantas Sabonis.

Despite Green's ejection, Warriors, who sit 10th in the Western Conference, backed up Tuesday's win against the Miami Heat as Andrew Wiggins scored a team-high 23 points while Curry finished with 17 points and 10 assists. Magic's second-straight loss keeps them fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Burundian club Dynamo have withdrawn from the Basketball Africa League (BAL) after refusing to wear a jersey with the 'Visit Rwanda' logo on it.

The side covered the message in their opening game in the Kalahari Conference in Pretoria, but forfeited their next two matches.

The protest comes amid political tensions between the two countries.

Burundi closed its borders with Rwanda in January after accusing its neighbour of funding rebel attacks.

Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye claimed Rwanda's government, led by Paul Kagame, was backing the Red Tabara rebel group after an attack by the militia killed 20 people in December.

President Kagame denies the charge, but Burundi's government has branded him a "bad neighbour".

BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall said the club had refused to comply with the league's rules governing jersey and uniform requirements.

Dynamo taped over the 'Visit Rwanda' logo when they beat Cape Town Tigers 86-73 on Saturday, and then forfeited matches against FUS Rabat on Sunday and Petro de Luanda on Tuesday.

Dynamo guard Bryton Hobbs claimed on social media that the instruction to cover the logo had come from Burundi's government.

"The government told our [club] president [Joe Dassin] that we can't play, so they told the BAL that we have to forfeit our game because we blocked out the 'Visit Rwanda' thing," the American said in an Instagram Live post on Sunday.

"People had to sign contracts with the sponsors in the contracts and stuff like that, so they knew what they were getting themselves into."

Burundi's basketball federation has been contacted for comment.

Bujumbura-based Dynamo were competing in the BAL for the first time and were scheduled to play a total of six games in the Kalahari Conference.

Gallo Fall said the situation leading to their withdrawal was "very unfortunate".

"Dynamo Basketball Club has further refused to comply with the BAL's rules and requirements," he added in a statement.

"Under Fiba [International Basketball Federation] rules, two forfeitures in the same tournament trigger the club's automatic withdrawal. This is a very unfortunate situation for the players and fans, and we share the frustrations of everyone involved."

LeBron James scored 30 points on his return for the Los Angeles Lakers at they won 123-118 at home to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Denver Nuggets, the NBA's defending champions, won again at the Portland Trail Blazers while Tyrese Maxey scored 24 points as the Philadelphia 76ers won 104-97 at the Cleveland Cavaliers in a game shown live on the BBC.

And Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler was one of four players to be ejected following a melee during their 106-95 win at the New Orleans Pelicans.

Butler scored 23 points before being sent to the locker room in the fourth quarter, along with Miami reserve Thomas Bryant and Pelicans players Jose Alvarado and Naji Marshall.

Bam Adebayo had 24 points as Miami improved to a 31-25 record to join the Orlando Magic atop the Eastern Conference Southeast division.

James added nine assists and seven rebounds for the Lakers after missing their past two games to rest a sore ankle, although the played in the All-Star Game in between.

Anthony Davis added 28 points and 13 rebounds as the Lakers improved to 31-27, while Victor Wembanyama had 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and added five blocked shots and five steals.

That made last year's number one draft pick the youngest player in NBA history to achieve the rare '5x5' statistical performance - including at least five points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in the same game.

"He doesn't have a ceiling," James said of the French rookie. "He can do whatever he wants to do in his career. I said a long time ago how special he was, and it's really that simple."

Damian Lillard was named the NBA All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player after helping the Eastern Conference beat the Western Conference 211-186.

The Milwaukee Bucks guard scored 39 points, including 11 three-pointers, in Indianapolis.

The East's points tally was a record in an All-Star Game, surpassing the 196 scored by the West in 2016.

"It's an honour," said 33-year-old Lillard on winning the Kobe Bryant MVP Trophy.

"I've been here quite a few times, so to have this kind of accomplishment is special."

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown contributed 36 points and Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton 32 for the East, who were the home side.

Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored 50 for the West.

The total of 397 points in the 73rd All-Star Game broke the record of 374 set in 2017.

La Lakers' LeBron James, 39, took part in a record 20th All-Star Game but, because of an ankle injury, played only 14 minutes for the West and scored eight points.

It was reported that the Golden State Warriors tried to acquire James, external before the trade deadline on 14 February.

"I am a Laker and I'm happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way," he before the game.

"But I don't have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I'll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It's a great organisation - so many greats. But we'll see."

Jayson Tatum starred for the Boston Celtics as they held off a fightback by the Miami Heat to win a feisty encounter 110-106.

Boston had a 15-point lead cut to two with less than two minutes remaining but dug in to extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Tatum was one assist shy of a triple-double as he finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

Kristaps Porzingis added 25 points while Tyler Herro scored 24 for Miami.

Boston star Jaylen Brown and Miami's Duncan Robinson clashed in the fourth period and exchanged heated words before Brown was assessed a flagrant foul.

A three-pointer from Herro then got Miami - who shocked the Celtics in last year's Eastern Conference Finals - back to within two at 106-104 with 1:49 remaining but Tatum and Porzingis sealed the win from the free-throw line.

Elsewhere, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander exploded for 38 points and Jalen Williams added 32 as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Sacramento Kings 127-113.

The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Thunder and moves them up to third in the Western Conference, half a game back from leaders the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Kings, for whom center Domantas Sabonis had a triple-double of 21 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists, stay in the play-in places as they sit seventh in the West.
