“The puppet’s just a puppet. We’re looking for the puppeteer.”

Throwback to a warm day in May last year when me and .claridge went around visiting some locations from the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials!

It really felt amazing to be in the places you see in the episode, whilst wearing the clothes that you see in the episode! Sure makes a nerd like me very happy indeed! Not that you can tell by my face, I was doing my best to look dramatic 😆

Coat - Steve Ricks
Waistcoat and Trousers - Magnoli Clothiers
Shirt - COS
Tie - Hawes and Curtis
Glasses - Cubitts
Trainers - Converse

Photo creds to Kaileigh - who is a bloody amazing photographer😎

Came across this old photo from years back when I did a special run of Eleventh Hour ties.
This was the ‘replica’ Lacroix tie that was made so it could be trashed for Matt Smith’s debut episode.

There was a secret about this run that’s never been publicly revealed.
But if you know - YOU KNOW!!!!!

Here are a number of recent reviews for the replica Fifth Doctor hatbands I make, available on my Etsy store.

This is the exact same hatband I supplied to Ray Holman to use for Peter Davison’s cameo in The Power Of The Doctor!

It’s always great to see my clients wearing their purchases, as often I have no idea who or how they will be worn!

This is a project I’ve been working on for a couple of months.
It wasn’t something on my radar, but following a client commission I decided to get this under my belt, completing my entire wardrobe of key Fourth Doctor costumes.

This is one costume that’s a harder to find reliable reference material. In filmed scenes the corduroy can look a bright red but seen on video tape it can look like a dark burgundy. Buttons too vary in appearance, from dark brown to a lighter tan. The same can be said of the elbow patches that sometimes look dark, sometimes lighter.

Once I settled on what my target, I spent time researching and tracking down all the elements I would need to make the ultimate version of this jacket, including corduroy of the correct wale; lining in the accurate shade; pocket binding in the right colour; sleeve lining in the accurate design; elbow patches made from the right kind of leather; and buttons in a good shade (though I may still revisit this at some point) and in the right placement.

I wanted the jacket to have a much looser feel, which runs against a lot of the more tailored work I do, so pattern designing and cutting was quite fun to do. Once I got into the swing of it I enjoyed tackling each of the jacket’s elements.

It was nice to approach the back knife pleats with a Savile Row eye, finding a novel way to keep them loose but yet sharp.
The same can be said for the bellows pockets, where it’s all in the pattern design with a few tricks from the Row along the way to add a lining and keep them sharp where it counts, especially along the bound edge.

I also had great fun making the tiny cuff pocket on the sleeve, repurposing my classic frock coat waistline flapped pocket, but in miniature!

Alongside making the jacket, you’ll have also seen I produced a matching shirt to complete the look.

Straight away I need to say I know this is NOT the correct combination - it just happens to be two garments a client has ordered together and I wondered what they might look like next to each other.

Makes for a fun combination I think!!

The coat is made from the last few metres of the original navy velvet, used to make the screen-worn coat.

This month I finished yet another Eighth Doctor frock coat, made using the very pattern that made Paul McGann’s convention costume.
The pattern actually shares a number of pieces (such as the skirt section etc) from other frock coats I make, such as the Fourth and Fifth Doctor’s.

I enjoy making this coat as it has a very clean line with no waistline pockets. This is compensated by having a secret tail pocket!
