Shane Izykowski, born Oh Jin Kwon in Taegu, South Korea, was adopted at the age of two. Living in Northeastern Pennsylvania for most of his life, Shane has spent a great deal of time experimenting with music, painting, drawing, sculpture, special effects and makeup, filmmaking and directing, costuming, mural work and photography. He's owned his own photography business, he was the Art Director for a community art gallery for two years, founded Project Street Art in 2014 and won awards for short films and community service.

In 2015, Shane drove over 3,000 miles to San Francisco, CA to live and work. During his time in San Francisco, he worked as a set designer, production designer for films, curator, Museum Preparator for the SFO Museum and the Lead Artist for Madame Tussauds SF and a podcaster (Drawing From Experience Podcast). Shane now works as an Art Installer at The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, fine art oil painter, sculptor and is living and creating in Los Angeles, CA. His current passion project is Leviathan, an aquatic themed Goth event he produces and hosts quarterly.

Behind these photos, nothing has been picture perfect. The photographers and I created something beautiful, but the truth is that this has been one of the hardest, most transformative years of my life. The first half of it was spent in deep healing after surviving something deeply painful, and the rest has been about rebuilding — learning to trust, to create, and to live again.

I’ve been managing chronic pain, caring for my sick kitty Franklin, and doing everything I can to keep Dungeon Douleur growing while fighting for stability and disability support.

Dungeon Douleur has always been about creating safe spaces for people who never had one — a place where we can exist fully in our truth. That mission has carried me through every challenge.

Getting nominated to be in the Top 20 of Style Icon was something I truly didn’t expect. Whoever nominated me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It reminded me that what I do matters, even when I’m quiet.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about resilience, honesty, and the belief that art and authenticity can grow from even the most difficult soil.

Thank you for seeing me, voting, sharing, and helping me keep the dream alive. 🤍
