digging through the Suss Design early 2000s archive, drawing, pulling yarn, making tiny yarn bows (how my mom taught me lol), swatching (for the weight and hand/feel of the knit), he weight and hand/feel of the piece before it’skpattern making (lots of math), sampling, changing things, trying again.

basically the part where the studio gets fun messy and we figure out what works.

SUSS TOPS group is almost complete, for knits more than just a traditional sweater (even though we love those too).

we’ve been knitting tops, quite a few tops

For SUSS TOPS, we’ve been going back through my mom’s old Suss Design pieces and pulling out shapes and ideas we still love, then figuring out what we want them to look like now.

It starts with yarn + swatching, then sketching, pattern making, sampling, fitting, changing our minds, and sampling again.

Some pieces stay close to the archive, others end up becoming something completely new.

We went looking through the Suss archive and couldn’t stop thinking about the tops.

Around 2005, my mom was making all kinds of knits that weren’t really sweaters at all — little fitted shapes, open shoulders, asymmetrical pieces, things you’d wear out rather than only bundle up in.

Twenty years later, we wanted to wear them again. So we’re making them again.
