My grandmother grew up in a small village in Vietnam, did not learn how to read or write, and was married at a very young age. Despite the hardship she experienced in her early years, she later became one of the most affluent women in the country and developed a reputation for helping countless families in the community who were most in need. Because of her kindness and generosity, when she emigrated to America and lost everything due to the war, generations of families continued to honor her and treated her with respect as if she is a Queen.

My mother-in-law emigrated to America from Mexico. She provided for her large family by picking onions in the field, cleaning houses, and caring for America’s elderly. Her descendants have graduated from Ivy League colleges and universities, became Vice Presidents of multinational corporations, attorneys, scientists, engineers, teachers, and police officers. Her eldest son died serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Her grand-daughter lovingly calls her “My Queen.”
