Remember Carole Little? ✨

If you knew fashion in the 1980s and ’90s, that name probably brings back some memories.

But for a younger generation of fashion heads, here’s something worth knowing:

Carole Little was a major part of Los Angeles fashion history.

Her sophisticated California sportswear grew into a major apparel business and became part of an era when Los Angeles was producing fashion for stores and closets across America.

And Carole Little was never just one designer and a label.

Behind companies like hers was an entire L.A. fashion ecosystem — designers, patternmakers, sample makers, contractors, sewing factories, salespeople, showrooms and all the other hands that kept the garment district moving.

This is the first episode of L.A. Fashion Stories — where we’ll revisit the designers, brands, couturiers, costume designers and fashion companies that shaped Los Angeles, past and present.

WHO REMEMBERS CAROLE LITTLE?

For many people who knew fashion in the 1980s and ’90s, the name Carole Little immediately brings back memories.

But there’s a bigger Los Angeles story behind that familiar label.

Carole Little became one of the important names in California sportswear, building a major Los Angeles apparel business during a period when the L.A. garment industry was producing clothing for stores across America.

And behind companies like Carole Little were thousands of people who made the industry work — designers, patternmakers, sample makers, cutters, sewing contractors, production teams, sales representatives, showroom people and many others.

That history deserves to be remembered.

This is the first episode of L.A. Fashion Stories, a new series from L.A. Rag Maker exploring the designers, brands, couturiers, costume designers and apparel companies that helped shape Los Angeles fashion — past and present.
