Along with crocheting and baking fun cakes I also enjoy gardening. With a small yard in town we don’t have a lot of space for a large in ground garden. But we have found that grow boxes allow us to save on space and enable us to grow things vertically. This year I decided to widen my flower beds to make room for more flowers. Also need to space my irises out more. I started some flowers from seed (pansies, petunias & johnny jump ups) in hopes to make some hanging baskets for our front porch. Still waiting on the pansies to sprout. Do you enjoy gardening? If so flower or veggie gardening? Please share in the comments! Isn’t my little helper cute? 😍

A couple of weekends ago I had the privilege of making a birthday cake for a friend’s sweet sixteen birthday party. 🥳 The theme was tacos and she wanted the cake to look like a giant taco. I hopped on Pinterest and was pleased to find a tutorial for a taco cake by Chelsweets. So thankful for the awesome step by step tutorial. It allowed me to create a pretty epic cake in my books. This was a bit out of my comfort zone because I had never been hired before to make a cake for someone else. 🙈 But it was a huge success! I’m so glad I was able to take part in making her birthday extra special! 🥰

Fun facts: The tomatoes are actually mini marshmallows and the cheese is coconut. The meat is crushed Oreos mixed with chocolate frosting. And everything else is buttercream frosting. 😋

My six year old requested a bumblebee themed birthday party. 🐝 He told me what he wanted on his cake and then my husband drew it on paper. While looking at the picture I recreated it with buttercream frosting. The base of the cake was a honey almond cake. The little bumblebees were sugar bees that we bought off of Amazon. And the straw was colored coconut left over from another project that I will share about tomorrow. It turned out cute and he was thrilled! ☺️

Oh my! It’s been a while since I posted. 🙈 It’s been a busy month and next month looks like it’ll be just as busy. However I was able to finish this little cutie today. It’s for my little man who turned 6 last week. How is he 6 already? 😭 He graduates from kindergarten in a little less than a month! Enjoy some silly pics of the birthday boy with his bumblebee. Can’t wait to see his face light up when he sees the finished product. 🥰

I love Easter! Gathering as a church family and celebrating our risen Savior makes the services extra special! And then gathering as a family afterwards to enjoy a big meal has always been a highlight as well. My grandparents have passed on but those memories still linger. 💕 Every year as a little girl my mom would make a dress for me to wear. She would make one for herself as well. I thought it was just wonderful! 🥰 This year I decided to make a little sweater to wear over a spaghetti strap dress I’ve had for several years. I already had the perfect yarn for the project but only had a certain amount as it was leftover from another project a few years back. God allowed me to figure out a way to make it work. All the glory goes to Him! And I got to feel fancy once again as I gathered with my family to celebrate our risen Lord! 🥰

Here’s a look at some other animal hats I’ve made in the past. Some of them were made when I was first starting out on my crochet journey. I think I would make the giraffe a little different now.🦒 And the lighting isn’t great on some of these. Each of them were custom orders. If you are interested in having something made please don’t hesitate to contact me and I would be happy to help you out. Which one is your favorite or is there an animal hat you would like to see made? I really like the raccoon hat! The first one was made for my second son when he was 2 1/2 years old and he still wears it 6 years later. ♥️ The last pic shows my two oldest wearing their new hats on Christmas Day! 🥰

This post is dedicated to animal hats I’ve made over the years for little girls. Being a boy mom it always brought me joy to make something girly! 💕 The last pic is a reminder of how fast our little ones grow up! He’s way too cute and ornery! 😍🥰

After making one chicken hat someone else requested another one. 🐔 Finished this about a month ago but never shared it on here. Decided to make the ties have a variegated look by mixing the colors up. What do you think? This one whipped up faster since I already knew what I was doing. Would you wear an animal hat? I’m a beanie person myself. When I feel the need to wear a hat which isn’t often. 🙃

Yesterday I shared how corner to corner blankets are different from normal crocheted blankets. Today I’ll share some of the ins and outs of creating the pattern and then the blanket. The complicated part of this pattern is graphing the picture. Each little pixel on the graph was a square in my blanket. I looked at some cross-stitch patterns which helped to create my own in the right size. Many times I was using multiple colors at the same time. Trying to keep them from getting majorly tangled was another issue. I decided to measure how much yarn I would need before the color change and then wrap it around a clothespin. That was very helpful! My other challenge was making the beaks a triangle shape rather than a square. So I had to modify them a bit. And then figure out how to reverse that on the birds facing the other direction. 🙃

From the pics you can see that I modified the antlers on the moose and decided to move the cardinal up another row. My husband helped me move them on the computer so I didn’t have to recreate my pixel picture. I would color each row as I went so I wouldn’t get mixed up on where I was. The last picture shows what the back looked like half way through weaving in my loose ends. Anyways I share all that to say a lot of work goes into planning a blanket like this. But the end results make it rewarding! 🥰

The blanket I posted about the other day is comprised of little squares all attached together. The pattern is known as corner to corner or c2c in crochet terms. It basically means you start in one corner and make a square. The next row would be 2 squares. Third row 3 and so on. Each row is done diagonally and gaining another square until you get it to the size you want. Once you reach your desired size the rows then get smaller by eliminating one square per row until you finish your last row with one square. I’ll share a bit more tomorrow regarding planning and creating the blanket.😁

Here’s another project that was completed for a customer before Christmas! She contacted me in August regarding making a blanket for her little guy. She wanted his name included in the blanket with some cardinals and moose. My brain started contemplating the design for this blanket. I downloaded a pixel art app which helped me in the designing process. I’ll share more tomorrow. The lighting at my house is horrible so pardon the difference in colors. 🙈The blanket was made with a beautiful sage green and the border was a forest green. Safe to say the little guy was thrilled with his Christmas/ birthday present. Thanks so much John-Taylore Estep for requesting me to make this for you! Every project is created with love! ❤️

Finished up this little elephant over the weekend for a customer. He turned out so cute! 🥰 Measures about 6 inches tall. The hardest part was attaching the ears. 😂 Safety pins came to my rescue. The beauty of handmade is the imperfections right? 😉

What other little animals would you like to see crocheted?

Pattern is compliments to Theresa's Crochet Shop. Thanks for the lovely pattern!
