Remember that what you need is a light thing to God. Sometimes we’re so used to things happening that we don’t even realize when we’ve entered into a new season. It makes me think about the Israelites. You may not even realize you’re in a new season, so you complain wanting to go back to your old ways because what was behind you seemed more comfortable.
I drove past a sign today that caught my attention. It said, “Seasons change, and so do you.” I realized that I’ve come into a season I never anticipated would come, probably because I never knew what it would look like. You can go through life so long that you start to carry a mentality of “it is what it is,” not realizing that the Lord came to give us life and life more abundantly.
I’ve come to a place of radical acceptance that I’m not looking to change anyone, I’m not looking to convince anyone, and I’m not looking to defend myself. I’ve come into a season where I finally gave God my yes.
What I realize about life is that people will hurt you and disappoint you. But that doesn’t mean that what you experienced with those people wasn’t good in the moment. The truth is, we will not escape this life without disappointments, without grief, without hardship, and without joy. We will experience all of it. And once you realize life isn’t this perfect picture, you start to embrace the journey.
Just because someone hurt you today doesn’t mean the people God places you in community with tomorrow will hurt you too. We can’t count up the cost of one relationship and carry it into the next. I’ve come to a place of radical acceptance that we are all human, that we make mistakes, and that at times what we’ve done doesn’t make us a bad person. The most important thing is this: when I make up my mind, I never return to the vomit I once left.
Finally graduating from a place you never even knew you were in school for feels refreshing. People often ask, “How do you know that you’re healed?” I think it’s when you can finally accept the truth about yourself in total.
To that, my friends, welcome to your new season!
