Juneteenth- June 19th, 1865- was the day the union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all the remaining slaves in Texas. Jubilee Day, otherwise known as Black Independence Day is our day to celebrate our families, our heritage and becoming our ancestors' wildest dreams. We have to look at how far we've come and preserve the memory of those that came before us to offer hope for every generation going forward 💚

Black History Spotlight: Muhammed Ali ✨
Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Known for his charismatic personality, boldness in the ring, and impact outside of boxing, he became an iconic figure both in sports and civil rights. Beyond boxing, Ali became a symbol of strength, resilience, and courage. His outspoken nature, both in and out of the ring, made him a global cultural icon. His influence extended beyond sports, inspiring people to stand up for their beliefs and fight for social change. Ali was also known for his humanitarian efforts and philanthropy. After retiring, he worked with numerous organizations and causes, including those that supported people with Parkinson’s disease (which he was diagnosed with in 1984), the disease that ultimately led to his death on June 3, 2016.

Black History Spotlight ✨: Dr. Gladys West 🖤
Gladys Mae West is an American mathematician known for her contributions to the mathematical modeling of the shape of the Earth, and her work on the development of the satellite geodesy models that were eventually incorporated into the Global Positioning System (GPS). She was the second Black woman to be hired at the Naval Proving Ground and was one of only four Black employees. West was admired for her ability to solve complex mathematical equations. She eventually transitioned from solving the equations herself to programming computers. At 70, Dr. Gladys West earned a PhD in Public Administration and Policy Affairs.

Black History Spotlight ✨: George Washington Carver 🖤
George Washington Carver was an agricultural scientist and inventor who developed hundreds of products using peanuts, sweet potatoes and soybeans. Born into slavery before it was outlawed, Carver left home at a young age to pursue education and would eventually earn a master’s degree in agricultural science from Iowa State University. He would go on to teach and conduct research at Tuskegee University for decades, and soon after his death his childhood home would be named a national monument—the first of its kind to honor a Black American
