Let’s talk BRIDAL HEMS!!!! The hem is often the most expensive part of an alterations total. This video gives a quick glimpse at one aspect that can help explain the cost. Picking lace off tulle is often a necessary part of hemming. It has to be carefully done, using something sharp, in a way that maintains the beauty and integrity of both the lace and the tulle. And manufactures generally use clear thread to sew the lace on. It’s a task that requires time, skill, and patience. And this is all before ever when shortening the dress. Needless to say, all the lace has to be then properly re-applied once the hem length is altered.

This video makes my bridal seamstress/dressmaker heart a little sad. I like the idea, but not so much the method of ex*****on. I understand most others may not have as much of a critical eye for stuff like this as I do, but it’s very uneven in the back and I hate that for any bride. I always ask my brides about their reception plans for their dress. If a bride ever tells me she’s going to have her loved ones just cut away at her dress after the ceremony I’d do my best to talk her into a bustle or try to work out something where I come to the venue and cut the dress for her.

This gown is getting a hem, , boning added, and ties replaced. I also removed the back modestly panel & instead of making another to custom fit, the bride decided to not have a mod panel at all.

The boning was hand stitched to the outer layer of the bodice lining for ease of application since none of the other required deconstruction to access the inner parts of the dress.

The hem is in process & will be completed within the next two days. I’ll pin her bustle in place at her 2nd fitting next week.

Stay tuned to see the rest of the process. ✨

Hi Everybody!

Alterations anyone?? I’m running a promo for the first 5 *qualifying brides that book. $450 get you a hem (*no lace or horsehair to remove, up to 4 layers), American bustle, straps shortened (*no sleeves), and cups. Feel free to inbox me if you are interested or have any questions about alterations.

Listen y’all!!!! For alterations purposes, 6 to 8 weeks is ideal but please plan to be fitted AT LEAST 4 weeks prior to whenever you need the garment back. Requesting a first fitting less than 4 weeks before your event will result in rush fees IF you can even find someone able to meet your timeframe.

Wedding & homecoming seasons are upon us and those floor length dresses are always too long. Plan accordingly to help improve your alterations experience.

I am currently offering a BRIDAL ALTERATIONS hem & bustle package starting at $250. If you are a soon-to-be bride or know of any, I would be honored to be a small part of the special day.

I also offer BRIDESMAIDS hems starting at $60.

Final pricing is set per dress depending on factors like number & width of layers on the dress and type of bustle.

I’ve been sewing for over 10 years. I started working in the alteration department for formalwear retailers in 2021. I also have my own sewing studio in the South Hampton neighborhood.
