Sustainable, Fashionable, Eco-Friendly
Handmade in the USA
A Proudly Woman-Owned Business That’s the motto of Lynn, Massachusetts’ woman-owned company Couture Planet™ that takes being green and being fashionable to a whole new level. Officially becoming Couture Planet™ in 2009, it began as a prototype when founding partner Constance Carman took on a recycling project
as part of her work at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. The newspaper became “fabric” which soon became handbags, and Couture Planet™ was born. The business has grown organically and is very proud of their “Made in America” ideal. In July of 2013, Carman and partners – Kathleen Cormier and Michelle Kane – made the decision to bring the product and all the manufacturing in-house. With its own sewing shop, Couture Planet™ has produced better, more controlled products and has strengthened one of their primary goals of being “MADE IN AMERICA” company -- while also being environmentally and community friendly. Moving to Lynn in 2011, Couture Planet™ employs personnel through the Massachusetts Department of Rehabilitation and students who qualify for a grant-driven summer employment program through the Lynn Summer Jobs Program. Couture Planet™ is committed to employing and empowering the underserved and supports the local community in every way they can. While Couture Planet™ is always trying to find more ways to be green; they are also using the handbags to “memorialize a moment in time.” The company has captured some of the most important moments in national and local history. Going forward, Couture Planet™ hopes to concentrate on building their brand and selling their products across the country and internationally. They presently partner with over 80 retailers across the country. To be a successful “Made in America” product, you need to be different and unique and that’s just what Couture Planet™ does best.
