Dear Friends & Fans,

As the summer sun begins to set a little earlier and the ferry schedules shift toward autumn’s rhythm, we find ourselves at a moment that feels both profound and bittersweet — saying goodbye to Threads of Mackinac.

After years of weaving dreams into reality on this magical island, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors permanently at the end of this season. As things go on our little island, commercial spaces are hard to come by and with our lease coming to a close next year, we felt that we’ve already accomplished what we set out to do. It’s a choice that comes with heavy hearts but also with immense gratitude for every thread of connection we’ve shared with you.

When we first opened on Astor Street in 2019, and later made our dream move to Main Street, we set out to reinvent what a tourist t-shirt shop could be. But what we discovered along the way was so much more meaningful than we ever imagined: you became part of our story, and we became part of yours. In a sea of so many ‘things’ you can buy, together we created something that spoke to something bigger.

Every design that was crafted with care, every conversation across our counter, every spark of recognition when you found that perfect piece — these moments have been the true fabric of Threads. You’ve reminded us that while we may have been in the business of creating wearable memories, what we were really doing was celebrating the experiences that can’t be sold in any store.

The good news is that our North Carolina shop is going strong with expansion plans on the way, and we’re excited to grow that brand and see how it can flourish. Please stay in touch with us there and do reach out if you’re ever in our hood. We love staying in touch with those we’ve met along the way.

Thank you for seven incredible years of letting us be part of your Mackinac story. The island will always have our hearts, and you’ll always be part of our threads.
