Sagebrush Hippie Creations I'm Michelle Mackey owner/artist of Sagebrush Hippie Creations. I'm located on the scenic prairie of northeastern MT.

I started beading in the spring of 2019 and fell in love.My work mainly consists of beaded earrings, but I dabble in other art forms too.

People often ask how long it takes me to bead things. Of course it always depends on size and difficulty of the pattern. Sometimes I feel like it makes the piece feel less impressive if I give a shorter time frame than people are expecting. I know how long and how many hours of practice it’s taken me to get as fast as I am. It kind of feels like only fellow beaders can appreciate it. I started picking out colors for this hat band at 8am this morning and just finished at 4:20 pm. Minus about an hour and a half for lunch and back breaks.

I have so many new followers I guess it’s time to reintroduce myself! I’m Michelle Mackey and I’m the artist behind Sagebrush Hippie Creations. I’ve lived on the Hi Line of Montana most of my life except for a short stint in Bozeman where I received my bachelors degree in psychology. I currently live in S**o MT with that handsome fellow in the picture, on his family’s farm. My greatest accomplishment in life will always be the two amazing kids I had a hand in raising. And now I’m grandma to two amazing grandsons. I started beading in 2019 my obsession with buying beads began long before that. Their beauty drew me in like a sirens song lbefore I ever taught myself to bead by watching a YouTube video. I have to admit I’ve been a bit of a hobby hoe in my life. As a child I was constantly drawing or sewing. In my adult life my hobbies have included knitting, spinning wool into yarn, soap making, painting signs, leather working, embroidery and flower arranging to name a few. But the minute I learned to bead, all other hobbies ceased to exist for me. Beading is more than a job for me, it’s a creative outlet and a means of expression. My mind is most at peace when I’m at my beading table. I love taking a pile of beads and turning it into an accessory that helps others express themselves. Putting together new and interesting color combinations is my favorite part, and probably what I get complimented on the most. Earrings will probably always be the cornerstone of my business, but I have loved adding new accessories to my repertoire. Especially the beaded hats. I am constantly striving to become better and learn new techniques. Whether you’re a new follower or one of my die hards I’m so glad you’re here!❤️Michelle

I found this Charlie 1 Horse hat for an absolute steal. It originally retailed for $209 and I paid SIGNIFICANTLY less and of course I’m passing the savings along. This 100% wool cognac colored hat is a size large. I had to give it a Sagebrush Hippie update with several colors of turquoise, white and black brim beading and a matching hat band. $385 with $20 shipping available.

I should’ve posted about this yesterday, but the reality of coming home after being gone 4 days is a lot of housework and laundry awaits you! We had a great time at the Makers of the West show this weekend. A ton of work goes into planning something like that and I truly appreciate the vision behind what they’re trying to build. In a world filled with AI and cheap Chinese crap it was an honor to be surrounded by masters of all the western crafts, people committed to not letting traditions die and passing their knowledge on through classes. It was great to meet new vendors and customers. It’s always scary to venture into a new area and try something new. We survived our first 3 day show and feel more confident looking ahead to Bucking Horse sale! Thanks to Mary and Katie Rae for all their hard work and we’ll see you in May Miles City!
