It’s a special day today!
For all the mamas that have pumped… even if just for a few hours, today we we hold space! Some of y’all know my story, I was committed to only nursing but it didn’t happen that way… baby boy could not latch and it brought on so many feelings and scenarios that till this day bring tears to my eyes. I managed to exclusively pump for about 10mo and looking back, as hard as it was, I miss it! It was a unique connection to my baby that is hard to explain in words. I was able to provide nourishment to my son that I literally created from my body! Pumping is still breastfeeding by definition and it was hard for me to accept that truth and to be ok with not being ok. Luckily my support team didn’t fall short in catching me right before I fell into heavier depression when it was time to part ways with my pump! I’m for ever grateful fir my journey… 🤎
The theme of World Breast Pumping Day 2022 is “Holding Space.” WBPD2022 acknowledges that it’s okay to be not okay. We’re here to hold space for the complicated feelings pumping can bring to the surface. Plans change, milestones are met, hopes and dreams are not realized, accomplishments are achieved, and through it all pumping parents persevere, one drop at a time.
