The store closed on October 25, 2025, 50 years after it was founded.

🌲 The Pathfinder story:
Founded in 1975 by Bill and Erma Riley, The Pathfinder began as a backpacking and adventure shop at 1111 Moro Street in Aggieville. Believing in the value of family time outdoors, the Rileys soon expanded their offerings to include bicycles when a nearby shop closed.

Dave Colburn joined the team in 1979 and became the store’s mechanic manager, helping shape The Pathfinder spirit that so many remember.

In 1992 the store moved to its current home on 304 Poyntz Avenue, where it became a hub for Manhattan, equipping generations of adventurers for journeys close to home and around the world.

In 2015, as Bill and Erma prepared for retirement, the business was purchased by Russell “Holly” and Lisa Hollenbeck, owners of The Alpine Shop in Missouri. Thanks to them, The Pathfinder’s legacy lived on and our community kept thriving together through the outdoors.

In 2025 we celebrate 50 years of The Pathfinder. We are deeply grateful for the chance to be part of your adventures, and honored to have helped create unforgettable memories along the way. 💚

We’re so grateful for all your kind words, memories, and love. It truly means the world to us.
Our store is looking a little emptier these days, but there are still some great finds left (all on sale!).
