Another heirloom redesign thoughtfully created for Janet’s daughter — transforming a wedding gown that has been treasured for over 20 years into a timeless bridal robe. Every heirloom project begins with an in-person consultation where we carefully go through the original gown together, discuss the vision for the new design, and sketch out what elements can be beautifully repurposed while still honoring the sentiment of the piece.
Working with heirloom garments is always a delicate process, especially when vintage fabrics have naturally become fragile with age. Every lace appliqué had to be carefully removed piece by piece to preserve the intricate lace. Because the original fabric had begun weakening over time, the process required an incredible amount of patience and precision to prevent tearing. Each lace element was then hand re-applied onto the robe to maintain the romantic character and elegance of the original gown.
The robe is beautifully finished with a full lining, inner ties to secure the front, and elegant belt loops for a refined silhouette. One of my favorite details is preserving the original sheer lace appliqué — allowing the beauty of the mother’s gown to continue living on in a meaningful new form for the next generation. Pieces like this are never simply remade; they are carefully restored, reimagined, and deeply cherished through every stitch.
