“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 KJV
Shame is one of the oldest emotions known to mankind.
In Genesis, after Adam and Eve listened to a worldly voice instead of God’s, their first reaction wasn’t anger, pride, or even blame. It was shame. They suddenly became aware of their failure and hid.
Think about that.
The God who created them, walked with them, and loved them wasn’t the one hiding. They were.
Thousands of years later, not much has changed.
We still listen to worldly voices. We still chase things we think will satisfy us. We still get distracted by our desires, our fears, our ambitions, and our need for control. And when we realize we’ve wandered off course, many of us respond exactly like Adam and Eve we hide.
We carry shame.
We learn to joke about it, ignore it, bury it, or pretend it isn’t there, but very few people actually unpack it.
The beautiful thing about the Gospel is that Jesus already knew we would struggle.
He knew we would fall short.
He knew we would disappoint ourselves.
He knew we would need grace long before we ever needed it.
That’s why He came.
Jesus didn’t die because God was surprised by human weakness. He died because God understood it completely.
So if you’re carrying shame today, acknowledge it. Learn from it. Let it teach you. But don’t build a home there.
God woke you up this morning.
You still have air in your lungs.
You still have a purpose.
You still have another opportunity to grow, learn, and draw closer to Him.
Your story isn’t over.
We’re all human. We’re all going to want things. We’re all going to struggle with worldly voices and earthly desires. The answer isn’t perfection. The answer is faith.
Faith that God has been faithful before.
Faith that His grace is still sufficient.
Faith that His plans are better than our own.
And faith that the same God who forgave you yesterday already knew you’d need forgiveness tomorrow.
So instead of carrying shame, carry gratitude.
Thank God for His mercy.
His patience.
For the cross.
Happy Friday. Trust in the things not yet seen, because we could never imagine all that God already knows.
Love Always
🩷B
