Our Tiikinaagan class with the Sault Tribe was so wonderful! So incredible that we are going to hold another later this year!
Getting to sit in a workshop like this to share experiences, stories, teachings, and learn to hold our babies in ceremony was indescribable.
So much knowledge has been lost over the past generations, and the epigenetic trauma that is healed when we come back to this knowledge...when mothers and grandmothers raise babies in the Tiikinaagan again. We become knoweldge keepers.
Think of the generations before us that were only safe when they abandoned the language, ceremony, and teachings...and now we come back proudly and publicly to bring back these teachings.
We are all coming back to it...very few tribal families carried all of their knowledge through the generations. But it was never the way, for one person or family to hold all the knowledge. and coming back to these teachings is not something we do on our own either--We do it together.
Chi Miigwech to Tyler Migizii Migwan with the Sault Tribe for making this class possible. This is exactly what our Culture program is supposed to do--help our lineages heal by coming together to learn.
Chi miigwech to Miskopwaaganikwe Tadgerson of Bay Mills for the teachings and stories shared. Your work and knowledge continue to inspire.
Miigwech also to Raeanne Madison of the Bois Forte Band for leading the Tiikinaagan teacher training, and help making this workshop possible.
Miigwech to Dr. Casey Church of the Pokagon Potawatami for making this beautiful tiikinaaganan for us!
I am so deeply grateful to be able to bring classes like these back to our people. To uphold Little Agate's mission of sustainability, community, and connection in this way is a dream come true.
We look forward to holding more of these workshops in the future.
If you would like to see either Tiikinaagan & cloth diaper workshops come to your tribal service area, please reach out and share this post! I would love to bring these workshops to tribes across the Midwest! Share this with your tribal education departments, culture coordinators, chairmen, or send me a message!
