Eaton Hill Textile Works

Eaton Hill Textile Works Using 200 year old New England made hand looms, each piece of fabric is custom dyed and woven to the client's unique specification.

Eaton Hill Textile Works is a small textile mill in central Vermont that preserves age old textile techniques and honors superior craftsmanship in the reproduction of 18th and 19th century historic fabrics. The natural dyes of the 18th and 19th century are used whenever possible to duplicate the rich, subtle shades that made historic fabrics so remarkable. Part of our mission at Eaton Hill is to r

esearch and resurrect forgotten textile techniques specifically of the 18th c. Our work on historic calendering methods has resulted in a new line of fabrics which we are now pleased to offer to the public.

Eaton Hill Textiles (Kate) took the chance to get out of Vermont last week and headed south for the conference on printed textiles at Colonial Williamsburg. It was an amazing conference with fabulous textiles and the weather sublime! We're now inspired to offer indigo resist block printed cotton and linen...maybe by 2018???

Spent the weekend sampling worsted and silk yarns for George Washington's Mount Vernon in "Saxons Blue". They have an invoice from 1763 mentioning fabric that was colored with this version of indigo (which was actually indigo sulfate) and we are trying to match the color that shows up in a painting of Johan Zoffany. It looks like we have come up with a pretty close match!
