Down is a luxurious, natural byproduct that is widely used to provide insulation and comfort in the home, outdoor, and hospitality segments. This natural fiber provides flexibility for product designers in terms of aesthetics, warmth, and sustainability. Understanding what specification to use, when to buy, treatment options, and certifications, can be challenging.

We welcome you to join members of the DOWNLITE OUTDOOR team, along with guest host IDFL, to better understand how to design with down.

As a second-generation family member and principal owner of DOWNLITE, Josh was raised in the world of Down & Feather. After attending DOWNLITE University in 2001, Josh’s first role was internal Sales, where he helped manage some of DOWNLITE’s largest and longest-tenured accounts.

Josh eventually took over Global Sourcing of Down & Feather for DOWNLITE in 2004, and became CFO in 2008. Following the official hire of DOWNLITE’s current CEO, Joe Crawford, Josh assumed the role of President of DOWNLITE’s Feather & Down Division, where Josh has full oversite of Sales, Marketing, Sourcing, and Operations.

Downlite Outdoor Leads Advanced Sustainable Technical Methods with down-trac® at the Functional Fabric Fair, April 4-5, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland

Downlite Outdoor, a market leader in responsibly sourced down and fills, highlights its newest technology with traceable down-trac®. Live demonstrations will be held at the Functional Fabric Fair on April 4-5 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

“Responsible to the Core,” Downlite has developed the down-trac® app for phones as another product transparency tool for retailers and customers to access the sustainable down supply chain. The down-trac® system delivers the peace of mind of knowing that a jacket, sleeping bag or outdoor down product is of the highest quality product from the world’s best responsible sources.
Here’s how down-trac® works: Each lot of down and feather that Downlite produces receives a unique identifier at each stage of the process, which is then combined into a final lot number when the material is readied per a brand’s requirements.

Retailers can integrate the system on their own websites, allowing consumers to either enter the lot number into a search bar or scan a tagged QR code to learn details about a product’s natural fill, from fill power to its origin. The system is free to use and all information is consolidated based on third- party traceability audits and testing.

How to reuse and recycle your down pillows in the garden!

Down is a luxurious yet durable natural material, as has been known for ages. With proper care, high-quality down bedding usually lasts much longer than down alternative pillows or comforters. You should be able to keep your favorite down or feather pillow for years. However, when the day comes to replace your down pillow, consider the protection of our environment and sustainability. This is one of the reasons Downlite subscribes to the Responsibly Sourced Down standards and practices in creating its products. Remember also that this nighttime luxury is also very reusable and recyclable at the end of its first life. Here are some ideas for reusing and recycling your old down bedding.
