Facebook has apparently decided today to shut down my Diane’s Dresses page. I got a message. I talked with someone on an audio call. They have also wiped out my personal messenger chats. I can’t reply to the customer I visited with a little while ago. I wrote out messages but they won’t send I have no idea what else to try. Have been working on it all afternoon. So, if you need to contact me, apparently you must try some other way.

Here are SOME of the items I made this year. The first wedding photo, I made the veil but only altered the dress. I am terrible at getting good photos that actually feature the sewn items.

I appreciate all who spread the word and promote me as a seamstress. Due to our rather large family and the projects I have the opportunity to make for them; my turn-around time isn’t always the same but I usually know when customers come approximately when I can have items completed. The older I get, the more we prioritize travels for family. This is meant to be a warning for those who wait until “ the last minute”. This Spring I had to turn down five dresses a week before prom. I really hate that; but it couldn’t be helped.

Thank you to all of my customers!

I am located in Meade, Kansas

A couple of the projects mixed in with lots of dress alterations which have kept me hopping lately! The table covers ( have made four so far) are meant for protection from paints, markers, glue, nail polish, etc. Next projects are started; they’ll be like the last photo, gifts for First Communicants. The deacon stoles are for a soon to be ordained permanent deacon in St. Louis archdiocese.

I’m having a hard time understanding the hypocrisy in the relief bills and who goes back to work and who doesn’t. I’m definitely in favor of curtailing the spread of COVID19 and hurt for all who have been financially affected. My busiest sewing season is Spring proms and weddings. That has been wrecked. Fortunately, my income is not our primary income. And I figure we all must do some sacrificing and help each other as much as we can but ouch; this is really starting to hurt! So I’m sharing this hair dresser’s post, which I can definitely identify with. I think the relief bills were hastily ( by necessity) drafted and implemented but that left loop-holes.

Copied from another post:

As a licensed professional cosmetologist of 30 years, I have NEVER felt as insulted as Governor Kelly made me feel tonight. Cosmetologist are trained, licensed, tested and inspected on safety, sanitation and infection control.

We practice these things daily, before and after every client. Not just during COVID-19. HOWEVER..... we apparently aren't able to use any of that training now. I wonder how much training the girl outside of the movie theater selling popcorn had in infection control? Or the curb side liquor delivery man?

Instead, we are lumped into the same category as bars at half capacity and casinos. Have you EVER seen a local salon have as many people in it at once as a bar?? Have the staff at bars and casinos passed the same examination on disinfection procedures administered by a KANSAS licensing agency? I think not. Quite frankly, it's insulting to our entire industry.

The PUBLISHED manifesto doesn't even bother to MENTION stylists except to say that we CAN'T open. NEVER does it say when we can. Yes, the Governor mentioned it on the news, but if it's not in writing.....

By the way.... who is cutting the GOVERNOR'S hair? That cut tonight was certainly NOT 6 weeks old. Hypocritical and typical.

Plus, the unemployment office posted saying they were HOPING to start paying hairdressers and others covered under the Federal CARES act by MAY 25!!!

Governor Kelly won't let us work using the skills we've been trained for nor is she demanding excellence from the unemployment office to help us during her mandatory shut down. But hey, at least she got her hair cut.

Please join me in calling the GOVERNOR'S office to let her know how hypocritical she is coming across. 296-3232

I planned to post a sort of prom dress shopping tutorial before prom season fell apart. Now many who sew are making masks. They/we need supplies. The struggle is real! There are as many methods/patterns/videos online as there are people making them, it seems. So, if you used to sew and don’t any more and have 1/8” or 1/4” elastic to donate to someone making masks, please do so. Finding narrow elastic is like finding spare ventilators, maybe worse.

People are trying/using many other methods; but narrow elastic loops still seems to be the method preferred by most.

As most of you know, Jim helps me sew; primarily his help is on Christmas gifts for our kids and grandkids every year. So one of these photos is of 53 quillows ( fleece folded and tucked into pillow tops to form a pillow). Each person’s had his/her name and a favorite animal embroidered on it. We battled with sewing machines this year, as well as illness and house projects, so they received them very late.

The other two photos are of Imagene modeling her mother of the bride dress. She brought a couple pictures of a dress she liked, we looked for fabrics, and I designed and made her dress.

One reason to share her pictures is to make a point about alterations. Yes, a seamstress can repair or remodel many items, but it isn’t always a time or money saver. Before you decide to purchase a prom or wedding dress which you know needs alterations, consider having one custom made.

The only prom dress I was privileged to make this year is modeled here by Bridget Sisco. Her little brother Henry sported his matching tie as he escorted her in the promenade. She wanted simple and elegant. In my opinion, a dress that fits well and fits the style of the girl wearing it are far more important than it’s cost or if it is “this year” in it’s style.

The other two pictures are before and after a dress remodel. Taryn looks beautiful, and pleased with the final result; she and her mom were able to help with deciding how to re-style it.

Big national news today: Alfred Angelo's bridal gown stores shut down completely and abruptly, leaving brides all over the place in a panic. They can come to me! I will custom make their bridal gowns!
