Location: Downtown Boise
Contract Position – Full Time/Part Time/Seasonal

Do you love weddings and fashion? Ever wanted to be considered a fairy god mother? Come join our alterations team! Stellula Designs has grown rapidly since 2016 and we are now Downtown Boise and servicing brides from all over the US! We are of the top referred shops in the valley due to our quality requirements and laid back, fun environment. We are growing so fast that we need to expand our team! We are known for out of the box ideas and solutions, overhauling vintage/retro gowns, and even dyeing gowns! We love the unconventional and unique ideas and encourage our clients to be themselves for their big day. We are looking for someone who will fit in with this ideal but can also sew (that’s kind of important). We are willing to train but do need someone who has at least a basic garment sewing knowledge.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Seamstress for bridal, we must treat each gown with respect and care, the phrase “measure twice, cut once” is very important. Our ideal candidate would be able to:
• Have an understanding of garment construction, fine fabrics, and basic sewing techniques.
• Be able to follow a pattern or draft/drape their own.
• Have worked with different sewing machines (Sergers, home machines, industrial…)
• Do detail focused work for longer stretches of time.
• Be open to learning new techniques
• Lift 10-30lbs at a time.
• Sit for long periods of time, climb stairs, sit on the floor for periods of time.

We would love to bring on someone who can also work with clients and do fittings/pick ups with our brides as well as sew. A Bridal appointment would look like:
• Greeting clients, answering questions, celebrating with them, helping them feel confident and beautiful in their gowns.
• Troubleshooting fit of client’s gown, explaining the alterations process, providing insight and strategy on how to get the best outcome.
• Using our Square POS system to accurately add up costs and explaining them to the client.
• Mark alterations needed on bride’s gown with pins, make notes for later sewing reference. Show the client their options and keep them engaged in the process.
• Go over paperwork, contract, and payments with clients and run POS invoicing system.
• Understand the limitations of each fabric and styles, maintain a clean sewing and fitting space.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Sewing education preferred
• Flexible availability (we do work more during certain seasons)

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Bridal Sewing Experience
• Pattern Drafting/Draping
• Pressing/Steaming

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Our team is very laid back, we have fun and support a relaxed environment while still encouraging productivity.

However, some more expensive gowns I've worked on ($4000+) are made way better than the $500 sample sale gown. I've had $5000+ priced wedding gowns have $250 alterations tickets, and $300 sale gowns cost almost $1k in Alts.

Yes, we ask where you bought your gown, it gives us a rough idea what the construction is like. Price is determined by difficulty of task and how long it'll take us to make it perfect! We are always happy to provide estimates virtually!

(Hand sewn lace appliques can take 5 min to remove, while machine sewn can take multiple 8 hr shifts)

In case it was of any question we'd like to state that Stellula is non-discriminatory on race, gender identity, or preference. We are for marriage and happy relationships and helping anyone feel beautiful for their big day.

With everything going on we thought maybe it was appropriate to make an "official" statement about our stance. We love our clients. We aren't here to judge your identity, who you choose to marry, or what your ancestry is. We're here to help you feel and look your best. 🖤🤎🤍❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

In order to comply with the new Stay-at-home order in Idaho we will be rescheduling appointments until the designated date. We are considered a non-essential business, so we are supposed to close. Heather will continue to work through the gowns already in shop from home so they will be ready for pick ups when the order is lifted. We appreciate your patience in responses and rescheduling as we work through each message and circumstance.

If you would like to have your gown after it has been done, we will offer a no-contact drop off at your home if you’d like. However, per our normal policy, once the gown leaves our possession any additional work on the gown will be charged. We will be waiving any storage fees for gowns for now so you may leave it at the shop until we can have you in to try it on. We can potentially offer photos of the gown once it’s completed if necessary.

Those who have already paid for rush orders will still be able to pick up their gowns, but we will not be accepting any more. Please understand we are trying to be responsible and comply with the measures set in place to keep the spread of the virus down.

First fittings will be rescheduled, we will work hard to get through the work already in shop so we can provide quicker turn around when the time comes for you to be able to come in for your fitting. If you’d like a complimentary consultation with Heather, please let us know as we will be providing virtual consults for questions and estimates.

Please let us know if you’ll be pushing your wedding to 2021 at all so we can arrange our schedule accordingly.

Thank you for all your patience and understanding in this difficult time for all of us. We will do the best we can to comply with the regulations being set in Idaho while also maintaining as much business as we can.

About Stellula

Stellula is owned and operated by me, Heather Miller. I offer bridal alterations, custom gowns, redesigns, gown dyeing, and vintage gown restoration or restyling. I have been sewing professionally for about 7 years, and owned my shop for 3 years as of April 2019. I studied 4 years in Fashion Design and Clothing Construction in University and grew up learning from my mother and grandmother as seamstresses. Trust that your gown is in good hands!
