Jordsen Sewing Artist and Instructor. Find me on Instagram . I'm Jordan Gomez...owner, instructor, and seamstress.

Jordsen Sewing Studio is my homegrown sewing business with the goal of spreading my love of sewing with the world. My business and my family are based in Merriam, KS, right next door to Kansas City. I teach sewing lessons and workshops, and I also make unique art by drawing with my sewing machine. I've been growing as a professional with JordsenDesigns since 2011, and before that I gained valuable

skills as a seamstress by working and interning at a tailoring shop. And even before that, I got a degree in Apparel & Textile Design, which had me falling in love with sewing. These years of experience, along with heaps of curiousity and self-motivation, have brought me to where I am today.

I’m excited to announce that I was chosen as a Aurifil Artisan for 2023-2024! June 1st marked the beginning of this year-long thread exploration where I will focus on using thread as my main medium.

My goal is to use my sewing machine to explore mark-making with thread, not only with garment sewing, but also my free motion artwork. I hope to learn about the technical aspects of thread, like fiber content and weight, and how it affects the sewing experience. And I want to use this as an excuse to just have fun with my sewing machine!

I appreciate for this opportunity and encouragement to explore creatively. Stay tuned to see what I get myself into this year!

Took a short 7 month break from posting here to spend more time on production sewing and custom pattern/garment work for clients. FInally felt like sharing some of my work again!
This is a free motion sewn watercolor paper collage I created with my sewing machine, floats and all (I’m a master at manipulating thread tension after all these years)! I have a series of pieces like this, and I’m wanting to circle back around to this idea and create more.
Inspired by::
•our paths in life
•how tiny decisions can change our trajectory
•chance encounters
•strangers turned friends, friends turned strangers
•past versions of ourselves we are connected to but no longer know
Imagine we were all stringing a thread along with us through our days, years, lives and now imagine how all our threads would be woven and tangled, how our threads would pull and mingle with friend and strangers and maybe even circle back to previous parts of itself. Yeah, the series is inspired by that sort of stuff.
I miss the familiar names and faces I connected with here on social media. Hopefully I show more of myself this year than last!

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted in awhile and figured this fun and mighty headshot I took recently for a special interview was a good reason to get back at it.
A Few Fun Facts for Re-Introduction::
-today’s my 33rd birthday. Weehee!
-I really love sewing and finding out all the things I can do with my power tool of choice - a sewing machine.
-I’m going paddle boarding with my family this weekend and this will be our 17th week in a row this year! We take our dog and our kids. It’s usually fun and sometimes relaxing.
- I’ve loved drawing since I was a kid. As an adult I’ve been interested in figuring out how to translate my drawings to stitching with thread.
-I used to say my favorite color was red orange, now I say vermillion, and that feels fancy!
-I love teaching people how to sew! Learning how to write, film, and edit an online sewing class was one of my work highlights from this past year.
I hope to share what I’m up to in my studio more regularly . Let’s see what happens! What have you all been up to lately?

This was the first piece I made at the start of the pandemic, just over a year ago (doesn’t it feel like longer?!). It’s my adaptation of the asiatic lilies I have growing all over our property. Free motion stitching and watercolor ink on fabric.
This morning, my first lily ofthe year popped open - pretty as ever! So I got this piece out and I’m brainstorming ways to frame or mount it.
Anyway, I thought this was a pretty video to share on this gloomy Friday. Enjoy!

Guess what!!! My first online sewing class - How To Draw With A Sewing Machine - is NOW AVAILABLE! It's a 20-minute long video sewing course, broken up into 2-4 minute mini lessons. Super digestible!

It's available on my website, etsy shop, AND Skillshare! (You can purchase directly from my shops or access it for FREE on Skillshare.) Check the link in comments for all that info.

I've enjoyed the whole process of creating this online class so much, I hope you enjoy taking it! Before I'm off to take a much needed rest, do you have any questions??

I’M! SO! EXCITED! I’m releasing my first Skillshare class ‘How To Draw With A Sewing Machine’ on May 28 - only one week away!
This is a 20-minute Free Motion Sewing 101 class. It’s geared toward any level of sewist, from a beginner with only a basic knowledge of their machine to a more experienced sewist ready to use their machine in a cool, new way.
I share all the supplies you’ll need, how to adjust your sewing machine to go from standard sewing to free motion, and my best tips for success. I’ll even give you a project, and examples, to get you started.
I’m very much a DIY type of person. A month ago I didn’t own a lavalier mic, didn’t know how to edit videos, and glazed over when some said ‘export at 1080p at 30 FPS’. To say I’m proud of myself for figuring this out AND doing it is an understatement. And guess what...I used Skillshare classes to learn all the parts of this process I didn’t yet know! Oh so meta!
If you want to get a free trial of Skillshare so you can take my class for free, go to my website and sign up for my mailing list! I’m sending out a link for the free trial next week!
Please share and watch the class if you’re interested in sewing. Come on...only 20 minutes of sitting on your ass and listening to my sweet, sweet voice and you can learn a new skill?!? Hell to the Yeah!

Inspired by the rich textures of frayed fabric edges and deckled-edge handmade papers, I took these materials and composed them into mini adventure collages. Which one would you like to visit in real life?
This little series of work is a short departure from my typical figurative, blind contour-y style. I wanted to dive into composition and color play a bit more, while keeping the sewing aspect less technical so I could focus on trying my hand at a new skill - framing!
Holy moly!😆 there are so many supplies involved in framing, it’s a whole new world I’ve discovered. I tried float mounting all these and I really love the look.
Keeping with my theme of intentionally choosing the materials I use, I repurposed all the frames. They are in good clean condition but may show signs of their previous lives, which I appreciate and hope you can too. Fabrics are mostly secondhand cotton/silk from and , my favorite places to get fabric ever. Handmade papers made by .
All these plus a few more are listed in my Etsy shop right now! Check em out on this glorious Friday!

I’m sketching out my thoughts on a new series of work I hope to start after I list those collage landscapes. The series is based on this thought I had of how seeing someone looking out a window makes me think they’re really looking in. ...Looking out to quiet the noise within.
I have had a few people tell me at first they could only see scribbles, but after a moment, a figure became clear. I think that means I’m on the right track. ✌️
