for centuries this was women’s work, the lower kind. a woman wasn’t even allowed to make a man’s coat. now the same craft walks a runway and the room calls it avant-garde.

Coperni () transformed the closing look of its Spring/Summer 2023 Paris Fashion Week show into a live scientific performance as Bella Hadid () stood on a lit platform while a team gradually sprayed a dress directly onto her body. The liquid dried almost instantly on contact to form a seamless non-woven fabric. Once the material set, the final silhouette was sculpted by hand in real time. The performance pushed traditional ideas of couture and craftsmanship into new territory.
