I tried every possible way to learn AI. And if you’ve tried free tutorials, tool hopping, and waiting until you’re ready, this is why none of it worked. Thing one. Free YouTube tutorials. What everyone says: everything you need is free online. What actually happens: you watch forty videos, take notes, and produce nothing. Because free content teaches you buttons, never workflows. You can know every feature and still have zero finished work with your name on it. Thing two. Trying every new tool that goes viral. What everyone says: stay on top of the tools or get left behind. What actually happens: subscriptions pile up, your camera roll fills with experiments, and none of it is sellable. And here’s the part nobody says out loud. The tools were never the skill. Everyone has access to the same AI. The same prompts. The same features. What separates the work that gets paid from the work that gets scrolled past is taste. Creative direction. Knowing what to ask for, and knowing when the output looks cheap and how to fix it. A tool can generate. Only you can direct. Thing three. Waiting until you’ve mastered it. What everyone says: learn properly first, then put yourself out there. What actually happens: you stay a student forever, because mastery has no finish line. Skill that never ships is invisible. And invisible skill pays nothing. None of these failed because you did them wrong. They all failed because none of them taught the two things that actually pay. Finishing, and directing. Everything changed for me with one structured course that walked me from nothing to one finished AI avatar. One finished thing, start to end. And in finishing it, I found the real skill underneath, the creative direction I’d been training for years in fashion without knowing AI would ever need it. From there came the campaigns, the lookbooks, the agency, the clients. So stop collecting tools. Start training your eye, and finish one thing. Which one of these have you tried? Tell me in the comments. I want to know how many of us went through the same thing!
