🇺🇸 Why we observe Memorial Day:

Originally "Decoration Day", it began in the 1860’s to commemorate those who had fallen in the Civil War.

On the 11th hour…of the 11th day…of the 11th month…of 1918, the guns went silent. World War I, “the War to end all Wars,” had ended and over 116,000 Americans had fallen in battle. To honor those who had fallen, 30 May was designated as Memorial Day in honor of those who had died in all U.S. wars. In 1967 “Memorial Day," became the official name.

Unfortunately, WW I was not the war to end all wars. WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Allied Force, Global War on Terror, Iraq and Afghanistan….

The American soldier, sailor, airmen, guardian and marine are our family, friends, and neighbors. Those men and women were regular folks who left their families, their homes, and their lives to defend our republic and our way of life.

Lets honor them by living in the freedom they protected.

However, we must not forget that the defense of freedom is not just for those in uniform. As citizens; every American shares the duty and responsibility to preserve our freedoms and the freedom of future generations, we must defend our constitution and our rights as Americans. It is our responsibility to both teach our children what it means to be an American and to pass those freedoms on to them and future generations.

God bless you and God bless the United States of America.🇺🇸

Tomorrow, May 23, Mackenzie's Light Foundation, Inc will proudly host their very first Mental Health Awareness Event here in Middleburg, Florida for Mackenzie's Light Foundation, Inc.

Over the past three weeks, an incredible amount of planning, coordination, and hard work has gone into bringing this event to life. While it certainly has not been easy, seeing our community come together for such an important cause has made every moment worthwhile.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our silent auction. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we currently have 19 amazing auction items available, including baskets for men, women, children, and even our furry friends — along with an incredible 3-day family getaway for up to 13 guests that includes a full-day pontoon rental.

Thank you to every small business, customer, friend, and supporter who donated items and helped make this event possible. Your kindness and generosity will directly support our mission of spreading mental health and su***de awareness throughout our community.

A special thank you goes to:

* Jim West of West Productions for providing entertainment and helping make this event memorable.
* Gabriel Goulding, a good friend who traveled from Ohio to volunteer his time and photography talents to help us continue spreading awareness.
* Every volunteer who stepped up to help bring this event together.
* Russ with Middleburg Market & Farm Swap for generously allowing us to utilize his property for this special occasion.
* Dominick Massaro of D’s Dawgs and Shannon Grimley/ Dru Tribble of Team Low Lyfe for helping spread the word and encouraging community involvement through vendors and event participation.

This event would not be possible without the overwhelming support of our community, and for that, we are truly grateful.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM as we come together for our very first event dedicated to spreading mental health and su***de awareness. 💜🩵💚
