The second picture is of me, 20 years later standing across from my business counter part.

This moment is more than just a comparison of two pictures. It's a testimony to a father's legacy living through the next generation.

Rant Time

Why did the city decide it was a good idea to put a bike station next to the bus stop right beside our building without even giving us any prior notice? As if the bus stop wasn't enough for public transportation. There are many spots along Mitchell St that this could've been placed but they chose to put it along a dwelling/small business thinking that they can just do what they want with no push back. There are apartments literally across the street from us that could've made better use of this.

What this means for us.

Noise: There's always a commotion outside after midnight at the bus stop. If it's not someone sleeping out there on the bench it's almost always someone who is intoxicated yelling at the top of their lungs. Then you got these electric scooter companies that dump their scooters on the corner and it just creates a bigger mess.

Economic impact on small business: the effects that it has on our business is impactful because during the summer we utilize this space to do our outdoor sale events. With this bike station here we can no longer continue with it.

Pollution: have you seen the bus stop on 6 and Mitchell on a summer day? It's disgusting. Garbage, beer cans, to-go food plates left open and half eaten are left on the bench. It gets so bad sometimes I go out there and sweep the area bc it's an eyesore. I feel the same thing will happen once the bikes are in use.

I do like the idea that the city is making modes of transportation accessible and affordable for its residents but c'mon at least consult the person who is going to have to live with this for the rest of their life. I know I won't get far with this but as long as I can get in someone's ear about it.

Where do I go from here? Who can I reach out to to get my voice heard? Who can I bug?!
