The crinkled, multicolored fabric called to mind roses once hung to dry—tokens of love, gifted by a devoted hand. Though time has softened their vibrancy and stolen their scent, their meaning lingers, unchanged and profound. Each fading petal speaks not of loss, but of endurance—a quiet reminder that beauty does not diminish with age, but deepens, becoming something richer, more intimate.

Inspired by this, I sought to embody romance through the fabric’s story, capturing it in the glow of a setting sun—where warmth, memory, and love gently blur into one.

This dream, unsure if it was a memory or imagination but even after 20 years I can still vividly remember this vision of a field of golden grains and a little bamboo hut in the high hills.

Took these right before the frost last fall before the rice was harvested. It truly was magnificent to be able to execute this shoot exactly how I envisioned it.

Last day of AAPI Month, I wanted to share a recent work I did with VIIVNCAIS V-Show early of 2024

Lub Kawm : a woven bamboo basket used for carrying one’s goods such as crops and other items.

My mother and her mother and her mother before her used this basket to help them with their dailey lives. Carrying tools to tend their fields, crops… waking up early before dusk and working until the sun is kissing the horizon of the golden tipped grain field.

During a specific time of the day when the sun sets and rises just right, the kawm starts to reflect a color almost gold-like.

Back then, riches meant good crops and many lands with good fertile soil… the gold flakes on the skirt represents the soil… a good land that can provided can be as priceless as gold to my ancestors.

This beaded overlay piece took me a week to make for my previous collection with fresh traditions, however it never made the runway because it didn’t come out the way I wanted it to.

It was inspired by the beads that hang from the Hmong Chinese garments
