In the late 1800s, people were required to work 12-hour days, 7 days a week. They ended up fighting hard for '8 hours for work, 8 hours for rest, 8 hours for what we will'. In 1887, Oregon was the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday. (It wasn't until 1926, when Henry Ford adopted the 5-day workweek, that the 40-hour workweek we know today gained mainstream footing.)

So if you are doing absolutely nothing on September 7th... you are actually celebrating the holiday perfectly.

Shoutout to the late 19th-century workforce for fighting for our weekends, fair wages, and this beautiful Monday off.

We'll see you on Tuesday, September 8th!

Saturday. FIVE YEARS. You showed up and we are so grateful.

Thank you for coming out, getting your shears sharpened, poking around the warehouse, and spending time with Sadie and Kristen talking about what upcycling actually looks like in our city.

And the denim Lake Superior memories going into Sadie's next piece - genuinely one of our favorite things that's ever happened here.

Cheers to five more years of making magic!

A garbage truck full of clothing gets dumped every second in this country… We'd like to introduce you to two people doing something about it - and how you can too.

Sadie Ward is a Twin Cities scenic and prop designer whose whole practice is rooted in the belief that conscious decisions about materials can change things. She's the founder of the Minneapolis Green Theater Alliance, an organization working to make the theater industry as a local chapter of the Broadway Green Theatre Alliance. Her credits include Park Square Theatre, Theatre in the Round, Theatre Pro Rata, Minnesota Opera, Lyric Arts, and Viterbo University.

πŸ‘‰ Interested in playing a role in supporting Sadie's efforts? This Saturday, bring old bras and blue jeans to be upcycled as art!

Kristen McCoy is building something real: a Twin Cities community that understands clothing as something to keep, repair, pass on, and transform, rather than discard. She's the founder of and producer of the , which kicked off their first, sold out runway on 7/31 at Theatre in the Round, bringing together upcyclers, secondhand shops, and circular fashion advocates. We were honored to put our rental looks on that runway last week.

Both Sadie and Kristen will be at our Customer Appreciation Day on August 15th and both are available to talk: about the Green Theater Alliance, about RETHINK, about Full Circle Fashion, about upcycling tips, what sustainable design actually looks like in theater, and about what all of us can do differently.

Come for the conversation. Stay for the shears sharpening. βœ‚οΈ
