The end of our Les Sól era...
Small businesses in Uptown (and across the nation) are hurting. Since 2020 (and even well before that), we feel the city hasn’t done enough to help our little slice of Minneapolis. COVID made things tricky, the economy and inflation made things trickier, and the construction in Uptown has made it the trickiest. We are sad to close our doors, but in a way, we’re relieved. And, in a weird way, we’re hoping our closing can serve as a reminder to the city that more needs to be done to help other small businesses.

This decision was not an easy one to make and it is happening way sooner than we expected…but it is time. I am so so proud of what Megs and I created together with the help of the truly beautiful community we have built, and I will always be grateful for the experiences and people we’ve met along this journey.
The truth is that owning a business, any business, is not easy. I knew It wouldn’t be but it was so much harder than I anticipated, and unfortunately it just kept getting harder. I have barely paid myself in four years, and with all the changes in the retail atmosphere, we didn’t see that changing at any point soon. We did not go into this with the intention of making a ton of money, but of course it’s not sustainable if you can’t pay yourself.
It feels as if the world doesn’t care for small business at this moment. We are sadly not alone in this plight. So many are struggling, and it sucks. It sucks even more when corporate greed inflates prices on everything, forcing more people to live from paycheck to paycheck. I get it, most of us really can’t afford to be spending money on clothing from a small, ethically minded boutique. But, at the same time, many can and choose to only support Amazon, Shein, and several other unethical companies.
I simply can’t fu***ng take one more person who comes in here laughing at prices, followed by saying they can get It cheaper online right In front of me. It’s insulting to myself as a business owner, and it’s insulting to the many independent artists and makers in our supply chain who are attempting to make a living through slow fashion. If that’s harsh sorry…I’m not In the mood to be gentle with this.
And to be perfectly honest, I'm sick of It. I am sick of overconsumption, constant sales, and begging people to buy things. The whole late stage capitalism, and the complete disregard for each other and the earth is depressing.
And we just had to call it. I am so sorry to the amazing artists, brands and makers we have gotten to know throughout the years, we fully Intend to support you all In the future and uplift you always.
We love you and are so thankful for all of you. 💛
