Another reason to learn how to sew and mend clothing...

The new clothing laws may sound like a good idea, BUT pay close attention to where the fashion industry is heading.
As regulations reshape fashion, expect clothing, especially garments made from natural fibers, to become more expensive. We may also see many more brands shift toward rental, resale, and subscription models instead of traditional ownership.

Atelier Club is Back!

After taking a break while Anya was little and moving into my new atelier, I am so excited to announce that Atelier Club is officially returning!

Atelier Club is a monthly sewing program for girls ages 10–14 who want to learn sewing, garment construction, and creative design in a professional couture atelier. Classes are intentionally kept small, with no more than four students, so each girl receives plenty of individualized instruction.

🧵 July Membership Includes:

• Three 90-minute classes
• Fridays: July 10, 17, & 24
• 12:00–1:30 PM
• Anagrassia Atelier

Mishawaka, Indiana

Because I scheduled the July classes later than I had hoped, I am waiving the $75 new student registration fee for any student who registers this week and begins classes on Friday.

Not sure you're ready to commit to the full month? Since this month's schedule came together at the last minute, I'm also happy to allow new students to attend a single class for $50. If you'd like to register for just one class, please email me at [email protected] and let me know which Friday you would like to attend.

Students are welcome to bring their own sewing project or choose one of the sewing kits available at the atelier.

It's hard to believe that nearly three years have passed since I began working with one of my dearest childhood friends on her custom bridal wardrobe. Together, we created multiple gowns and pieces so she could have different looks throughout her New Year's Eve wedding celebration.

Michelle and I grew up just a few houses apart. As little girls, we would play dress-up in her mother's old wedding gowns, never imagining that one day I would have the honor of creating her own. Even more fitting, her future husband, Corey, lived right behind her all those years.

Seeing Michelle walk down the aisle and celebrating with her and Corey on their wedding day remains one of the happiest moments of my career and one I will always treasure.
May God continue to bless their marriage and family.
Thank you, Michelle, for trusting me with such a special chapter in your lives.

Last weekend I carved out a little time for a personal sewing project and finally drafted a custom very high waisted wide leg trouser pattern I’ve wanted to make for a long time.

I started with a light blue cotton mock-up, adjusted the fit, and finished the first pair in a heavyweight dark navy denim. The clean back, long leg, and extra length for heels turned out exactly how I hoped.

One of the best reminders from this project: clothing feels completely different when it truly fits your proportions. These trousers already feel better than anything I’ve had in my closet in years, and I’m excited to make more versions in linen and wool.

One of my favorite kinds of projects is transforming heirloom garments into something new for the next generation.

This custom First Holy Communion dress was created from Gabby’s mother’s Communion gown from the 1990s. We preserved special details from the original dress while redesigning it to reflect Gabby’s own personality and love of dance and movement! Flourish Interiors

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPHZQkIGjzY The Uncovering Dressmakers Project by Sage Foley and Steph Haire is incredibly exciting! I can’t wait to read their catalogue and spend time learning about the lives and work of past dressmakers.

I happened to listen to this interview while finishing a wedding rehearsal dress and flower girl dress created from a mother’s custom wedding gown. The original gown had been designed and sewn by another dressmaker, and it was such a meaningful experience to study her craftsmanship and discover many of her original hand stitches still intact. I was able to transform the gown for a new generation while preserving much of her beautiful handwork. (WIP photo of the gown inside out)

That is part of what makes projects like this so exciting to me. So many women built lives, businesses, and creative legacies through sewing and dressmaking. Some even rose out of poverty through their skill, discipline, and remarkable eye for design. I’m really looking forward to learning more about these women and the shops and traditions they created.
