🖤Megan's story:
See this lady? This is my mom. Melanie. I look a lot like her. That crinkle in the corner of my eye, I get that from her. I definitely get my eyes from her. We have the same laugh and sometimes I will think she's in the room when I hear my own laughter. She's so young. A mere 55 years old. And she has cancer. A**l Mucosal Melanoma, or as we like to call it in my family, Butt cancer. I know it sounds crude but if you don't find something to laugh at with cancer, well, it will take everything you have to fight it.
I am going to nick-name the cancer "butt" to keep things light.
Butt has been plaguing my mom for about 18 months now. Well more like 2 years if you count the time it was dormant before it was discovered and removed. It is such an extremely rare form of cancer, making up less than 1% of melanoma. Unfortunately it is the most deadly. The median survival rate is 14-20 months. Sad right? I told you Butt is a major pain in the butt.
My mom has been doing relatively well considering her cancer is systemic including in lymph nodes, all over her body, her liver, groin and lungs. She has endured immunotherapy treatments every three weeks, had surgeries to remove what could be taken, and encountered so many setbacks it's heartbreaking. In the last few weeks, Butt took things to the next level. He decided to grow. And this time, treatment options are limited.
Through all of this, my mom has continued to do her best to work a full time job so she can not only support herself financially, but also support her 25 year old son with severe epilepsy and his two children when he has them. She has also supported all 7 of her children in as many ways as she could. Including getting in her car at a moments notice and driving 4 hours to my house when I went into labor with my twins 4 weeks early this past July. She took my older kids and showed them a good time, and came and supported me at the hospital. She is not perfect by any means, and neither is our relationship, but we work on it. And I am done letting her waste whatever time she has left on this Earth sitting at a desk.
We still have hope that she will eventually evict Butt for good. But we are also realistic and know the odds we are facing. She has already exceeded the median survival rate. And a growing cancer is never good.
So even though we can't kill Butt for her, we can give her back something Butt has been taking from her for two years now, and that is time.
That's where you come in. All of my sales for this weekend will go to help reach a goal of $10,000 for my mom, so she can quit going to work every day in extreme physical pain and live as much as she possibly can.
The rep who is sharing this with you has also committed to show Butt who's boss by donating a portion of her sales to the cause. You can shop with her using this link www.shopwithsarahw.com. You can also help by sharing the love and sharing this post to your personal wall so it can spread as far as humanly possible.
